"Immersive" - works like the current system
"Randomized" - would just unlock a random Semblance whenever a pawn would unlock a Semblance
Making it possible to actually choose a Semblance feels like cheating. A Semblance is something different than for example a magic class from Rimworld of Magic, where you can actually study the arcane arts etc.
To get Nora´s Semblance you can actually just spam electric dmg on a pawn and eventually you will get it.
That said, if given the choice between the current system or true randomness, I'd probably pick the current system since it at least lets you try to game the system a bit if you want a specific Semblance on a specific Colonist. If you were to transition towards fully random Semblances, however, not only would I not complain, but that would also feel Immersive in it's own way since according to the show, the only Heriditary Semblance is Weiss's, so there's randomness at play for most people anyways!
I could make it more connected to the traits that pawns already have, because that´s their character. So it´s semi-random. I need to find a non hard coded mechanic for that though, as there are many modded traits out there.
1) Base it on their skills (Example: High Melee brings a higher chance for Semblances like Yang or Hazel) but I also know of mods that add RPG-like stats and I don't know if that actually replaces skills or builds on them.
2) Pick it randomly upon Unlocking the Aura, leave it unknown to the player, and you need to find ways to unlock it. That way there's some trial and error experimentation to learn about it. This would simultaneously keep the activators (Cranked up to higher percentages since they're not competing against other activators) but also allow Semblances to share activators if applicable (Again, using the aforementioned example, Yang and Hazel's Semblances are heavily tuned towards melee combat, so they could both share a melee-related unlock since you just need to find the right activator for your specific Semblance.)
That said, I don't know how reasonable it is to keep it hidden from the player and picked upon generation considering any non-colonist could have the Aura and be captured and recruited, but at this point in time that's the best idea I have.
