Game gets laggy (Not FPS lag - menues respnse )
Dear Friends ,


I have what i think is a new problem, since I didn't have it before. The menues are really laggy.
I click the armement menu and have to wait 4 seconds for the menu to pop up and another 4 seconds for weapons list to pop. and the list get refreshed every change.

Is it something I did wrong? I am playing with limited construction ON.

I've had this issue, too. I'm pretty sure I've identified the cause, but I don't have any answers to rectifying it. In my experience, around 5 posts, the menu starts to get laggy. Then it keeps getting worse. I've had some success just putting up one camp and that's it. But I haven't isolated the issue enough to report it yet. It may have something to do with how long the menus are open, or the number of unique items in storage, or having statics in a post that is outside the spawn range, or something else entirely. In my experience, it doesn't seem to matter how many statics or guards are summoned, only that they are summoned. All I can say is that this mission is still in Alpha, so isolating the issue can be huge for SaOK. So please experiment and see if you can figure out the exact cause.

okey. I will love this mission even if it needs 2 years dev time.
Arma is all about open battlfield and this mission should show the devs what they need to do for next DLC.

Someone just posted something on another thread that might pertain to this issue. They said that not using the steam install, and installing separately in the mission folder, improved their performance. Give that a shot and see if it helps. And it's usually best to play with all computer online access turned off. This keeps automatic updates from eating up your performance.

I think the lag was missunderstood. I play with 60 FPS all the time no matter what is going on.
what I refer to is menues LAG.
1 : click add 30 6.5 MAG
2 : Wait 7 seconds
3 : Mag apears in backpack
4 : Click add 30 6.5 mag
5 : wait 5 seconds
6 : Mag apears in backpack
7 : Loop Loop Loop

There was random bad stutter bug in airfield capture task event which may had caused that, but I continue testing and hopefully getting it fixed if its not already in the newest release.

The dialog slowing down issue have got in recently, so it shouldnt be hard to fix (unless its game related), just challenging to find.

I am about 9 hours in a mission freshly started with new release.
I think it's fixed. no lag on menues. even with unlimited building.

No. I know exactly what you are talking about. It happens to me too. But if it's a matter of overload of some sort, a perfomance enhancement would make a noticeable difference. Just another way of trying to isolate the issue.

@SaOK Interesting. I do tend to capture airfields first. Let me try a few runs without capturing an airfield.

it's fixed by restarting the map and loading your old save :

@Jedeko I wish that were true. I have done everything up to and including restarting my rig, and reinstalling arma 3, and it still happens when I load the save.

@One Shot Just an FYI, the performance tweak I mentioned yesterday doesn't help. I still got the issue last night.

@SaOK Not having an airport didn't help either. I got the problem last night and I never came within 4 km of an airport.

Well that's really weird. I have played more than 10 hours and the menus are normal. some lag but just a little bit compaired to the last playthrough. I think it's the ammount of weapons you have captured. because that's how it's starts to lag.

IMHO. the more weapons I have on the list (the more mags) I am talking quantity not diversity... The more lag I have. anyways. I will keep playing and see.

The construction menu lags too. might be the amount of buildings too.
Also ... I am playing on +50% of spawn disrtance and it's all fine.

The menus that SAOK have done are User friendly. I give it a 10/10 but I can sacrifice some of this for a simple yet fast menu.

I continue working on the issue as top priority. Havent got it yet myself, but have done only shorter test-runs lately. Probably the leak isnt in the options code, but something slowing badly the whole mission script performance (maybe some over growing array) and then it shows when trying to enter the options.

Before finding the fix, one way to reset the performance would be to save in shift+1 menu, restart the mission and continue your mission progress.

Edit: But will also check the stored gear if its somehow related.

Well I know the problem isn't sheer number of statics. I set up a post with nearly 300 statics of varying types, and my FPS crashed without any lag. I followed that up by setting up 25 posts with guards (no statics), and lagged out with excellent FPS. On my next run I set up one camp with 4 statics only. I just drove around collecting gear until I had hundreds of each weapon. I lagged out again. On the next run, I just saved 200 times. No lag. And on my last run, I started at the far north-east tip of the peninsula. I didn't go out of my way to kill anything, I didn't build a post. I didn't collect any gear. I just drove south. I got to the power plant by the swamp before I was blown up, and I was lagging out by the end. There are a few more experiments I'm going to run, but I'm exhausted and need sleep. If you want me to try anything specific, let me know and I'll run it tonight.

waw man, you have tried everything I was goinf to try.
I was prety sure it's the number of weapo ns you collect. dammmmmit!

Weird thing is that on my current play through (10 hours in) no lag at all.

I found one quite certain leak which should be fixed in the newest release. Will still look for possible other leak issues, but the guardpost/gear data should work normally. Only if having much posts near each other that of course lags, but the slow menu issue is/was most likely of some array getting very much overgrown or active functions piling up without reaching the end.
