So, what is your preferred base location?
Just wondering what locations people choose for Camp Wolf, as finding a spot that's strategically sound, large and flat enough to build the special structures on and in close enough proximity to a military base for purchasing stuff can be a bit tricky.

I'm currently looking at the stadium towards the west coast (Grid ref: 149,054), because it's sat right on top of a factory location, and a hundred yards south of that, a military base. The stadium itself is big and flat, allowing for the construction of military offices, helipads and other specials. Just to its NW is the huge hill, Magos, with a military base on top of it, too, which makes a prime location to fill up with AT and AA launchers with excellent lines of sight in all directions, making enemy assaults on the stadium or its surrounding area somewhat easier to handle. That region is also in close proximity to a power station, other factories and plenty of docks to the south west. Whilst setting yourself up there can be a bit frantic due to enemies coming from all directions, it also allows you to set up a heavy prestige income fairly quickly.

I always used to set up on the NE tip of Altis at the airfield there due to the location meaning that most assaults came from the south, but the lack of strategic points up there (Factories etc) made this a little counter productive.

You know the AAC Airfield? It's the one underneath the biggest airfield. Well, Camp Wolf is right next to it. It serves as a defensive camp for the AAC airfield, along with other camps around the airfield protecting it against incoming forces, the airfield serves as military shop AND I've made that airfield my FOB (Forward Operating Base). From that base I'm planning all attacks in a radius of 5km. If I'm planning to attack further than 5km I'll probably build another FOB 5km further. And I have to say, this tactic works like a charm. My attempt to capture the biggest airfield is succeed, along with help of jet and chopper support it worked. I've disbanded the FOB base at the AAC airfield and now it's operative at the main airfield. From here on, I've a great advantage on CSAT, I'm smelling victory :D

That's a great tip for new people, try to capture an airfield, doesn't matter wich one, but it's all flat and you can start to get air support right away.

Ooooh, do airfields work as military bases now in terms of things available for purchase? I always thought it was just air assets you could buy there, so I was avoiding it for now.

The airfield serves as military shop but you can only buy helicopters/jets/support trucks/units.
But I'm lucky there was a CSAT base right next to the main airfield. So I can buy everything over there, from armored to air vehicles.

Next time I start a new game I think I'll start off undercover and scope out the airfields to see if I can find one in close proximity to a milbase. I know the main airport always has one, but that'd be hella tricky to take right at the start.

I found that the right lower side of the map is super heavy with the helicopters. So AA is really need. However I like the salt field since it's so flat and has an airfield.

Salt lake is indeed a really good spot. But it's too far yet to make a base there. I'll need to push further to the right in order to do that. I'm not building a base without backup from other bases around it. That's just how I play. But if everything comes under control (cause CSAT is still trying to recapture the main airfield) I'll probably go for Salt lake.

And indeed the rightlower side is pretty high populated with enemy helicopters. That's why I'm building many AA Installations around my base because one jet/helicopter without any AA and your base is done, simple as that.
My base is near Orino, not the best location.

I like the camp overlooking the power plant on the west coast just north of Kavala. Very defensible, and 2 factories and the power station are right there. It's a short jaunt to the pier and you start getting the additional prestige right away. Then I make my way to the main air base. With those two sectors secured, and the empty northern sector, half the island is under my control in pretty short order. Then I start launching missions in the three remaining directions.

The only problem is how quickly it's all over, so I started doing challenge runs. No hud, highest difficulty, and ironman. You really get to appreciate stealth when you play dead-is-dead.

Im doing challenge runs as well, 5 man team with some op modded weapons to balence the gameplay.

Im currently trying to set up a camp at the stadium, but it's surrounded by enemies.

Yeah, setting up at the stadium is tricky at the start of the game. Only way I've found I can do it is by clearing out the entire area before I start. Capture the factory, the base near that, the base on the hill (And shove a bunch of AT and AA launchers on there - great sight lines so they can keep enemy armour and helos at bay somewhat). There is a little highground just north of the stadium too (Like right next to it) that you can put some of your guys on with AT, covering various directions whilst you build.

I've started a new game now using scripts to ensure my men have British accents, and I'm using a couple of mods to style my team as 1Para. I've set up on one of the southern peninsulas at a small, ruined castle (East of Agela, north of Skopos - 111, 087). I'm loving it so far. Saved the game in the middle of a rather large, prolonged infantry and light armour counter offensive on my position, but the sight lines to the west and north of that castle are INCREDIBLE; the little land gap that connects this peninsula to the main island is a couple of KM away, and it's currently littered with burning wrecks. There's a military base about 30 seconds drive to the east of this position, which is also on a great elevated position overlooking the north, south and also east towards the sea. The castle doesn't have a ton of flat land for building on, but it's got enough for military offices, helipads and other required stuff like POW cells, and you can place AT and AA launchers on the raised castle platforms (I just kinda wish we could place static infantry).

It isn't near any major strategic locations, but the AAF airfield isn't too far to the north (About 2 mins drive, fast), and it's in a superb position to strike out from via helicopter. It's also one of the easiest places to defend that I've found so far, and the ruins give it flavour. I also shove a flag down with the MCC editor, because everyone knows that an Englishman's home is his castle ^_^
