December 2020 Update
I wanted to make a blog post about the huge update I'm working on for Green Fire in elaborate detail, but the wiki is giving me some trouble, so I'll try to be brief and skim over some of the most important changes coming up.

First off, getting high will no longer be an immediate, one-time hit. Instead your character will be given an immediate boost to Boredom/Stress/Happiness, but will be treated to increased tiredness and hunger over the course of 30 in-game minutes. In addition to this, getting high relieves even more pain than before and will reduce panic as well. Edibles will have about a 30 minute window where nothing happens and THEN you will feel the effects over time. In addition to this, edibles reduce more pain and panic than smokes.

As for smokes, there's even more of them with the addition of Blunts, Cigars, Cannabis Cigars, Kief, and Hashish. Kief can be obtained by using a weed grinder on Cannabis to make Shake (now required to make joints, etc), or by sifting a large amount of shake through a silkscreen. Hashish can be made by pressing Kief in a specially made press.

Many rolled smokes will have a chance to make your character cough, meaning they only smoke half and have some leftover in their inventory for later. The chances that this happens depends on the traits the character has (Smoker, Stoner) and the relative "strength" of the smoke itself.

Some recipes will have to be learned or will be known to characters based on their traits and professions. Magazines to teach these recipes have also been added, and will appear in spots you typically find literature in.

Farming time will be adjusted to match real-world cannabis and tobacco farming (at very slow farming speed). After harvest, both must be dried and processed. For tobacco this just means drying the stalk for 4-8 in-game weeks (at v. slow farm speed). Cannabis takes much less time to dry, and it must be trimmed (fresh leaves obtained from the plant can be used to roll Cannabis Cigars). Trimming speeds up the drying process, but weed must be "cured" for an additional 2-3 weeks (@ v. slow speed) in jars. Similarly, any freshly rolled cigars require time to cure, as well.

That covers the biggest changes that people can expect with the coming update. There's more, but the wiki will be the place to go over that stuff in-depth. I hope to finish adding the last bit of polish and testing by the end of the week and plan to upload it by Monday at the earliest, or by Xmas at the latest. I hope you all are safe, uninfected, and are having happy holidays!

do you need to do anything special to let the stuff dry out? or do you just leave it in a container or on the floor and just wait?

Correct. The time is somewhat randomized, but is dependent upon the "farming speed" value you used for sandbox settings. At the slowest setting, the time is meant to represent realistic drying times.

After the timer on each item has passed, they will be instantly replaced with a dried version of the item. Drying can be sped up by trimming while the item is still fresh, but you must learn trimming techniques and find a pair of scissors if you don't already own a pair and didn't pick farmer or gardener.

Me and my mate have been blazing like mad lads when playing PZ split-screen with this mod, we love it!

Question for you. At the moment it seems the simplest way to get weed is to grow it, put it in jars and then let it cure. The problem we have is that there aren't many jars, I have only two and we want to farm on an industrial scale :steamhappy:

I don't know much about the curing process in real life, can you use things other than jars? For example, it'd be really useful to me if I could re-purpose or make something else that could be used to cure.

For example: Remove windows and then glue them together to make a large glass container and then use a some hinges and door knob and a plank to put a lid on it. Or better yet another window to be used as a lid. There might be less troublesome solutions that might be obvious to you. This would give me all the room I need to cure.

Anyway, again, thanks for this mod.

@Strider based on the recipes i wrote for curing jars, you can fit multiple dried weed items into the curing jar. Put one of uncured curing jars in your inventory along with more dried weed and open the recipe or drop down menu. The curing jar can fit a total of 4 trimmed dried weed items before it is "full." Bear in mind the drying timer will be reset when you add more weed.
