A side effect is also that first aid would heal you for more health than you actually lose too.
So no, you sadly don't get an immortal army and the ability to recover wounds in seconds.
Iron flesh and some other combat skills cap out at 15, though you don't want to max them out with skill points. Legendary weapons and armor provide substantial bonuses to these skills, so you only put in enough points so that you can max them out with the bonus from your gear.
You can invest the other points you'd normally spend in something else.
