As for progressing in the military, what about basing the progress on both battle expierience, relations with the officer in question and potentially Nero (for the rank of tribunus militaris)?
It would have more sense than limting progress to expierience only.
Perhaps you could also add a bunch of events for service like legionary training (for skills), sacks of conquered settlements (for loot at cost of honor or vice versa), military parades and drilling etc.?
It would make freelancer feature a bit more interesting than it could be if we left it default.
PS: Yea it would be cool to have like some kind of "quests or achivements" you can unlock for being promoted, maybe as you say by killing enemies or by days in service. It would be perfect

Yes days in service will probably also matter.
I definitely like the idea of quests that result in promotions rather than mechanical "kill x enemies". First, the bodycount goals are boring, while quests give a great opportunity to breathe even more atmospheric life and character into the mod. Second, in other mods with freelancer, you occasionally run into periods of peace, where you just sit there and stare at the screen while time flies by, because your general is aimlessly running around with nothing to fight, and quests can be triggered by time passing in service, so that you have something fun to do and progress even if no fighting is happening.
Also, how about making the Praetorian Guard a separate step in the career ladder rather than just a legion to join? You couldn't just walk off the street and join the Praetorians, but doing so opened up a path to political influence.
I'm thinking initially join a regular legion, build up to a seasoned veteran status through regular freelancer-like mechanics of fighting and killing (and/or the quests you had in mind, like soldiers brawling), then get invited into the Guard. The first one or a few promotions in the Guard is likewise just merit, and then it's quests involving more and more politics, until you get to transfer to your own minor command (e.g. an ala outside the Guard), being able to run around on the map independently.
After this, Kaesus is well set up to give you some more fetch and find/talk quests to build more relations with the Guard, while guiding you to meet and build some relations with Nero, major province governors and commanders of legions, building up the backstory for the eventual emperor quests (so you aren't becoming the head of the realm without even visiting key parts of it or meeting key players).
You already have the "money" part in the preparation to the plot to become emperor. These quests can expand on the "connections" part.

During your promotion you could get the change to join the preatorian guard. But you wont be able to do it from the very start. But I will leave the decision whether to join the guard or not up to the player.
Also, the old way to join Rome as officer will still be there, if the player dont want to freelance. But with harsher conditions. Like: you need either very high renown and wealth and must maybe bribe someone (because the rich people usually start directly as officer) or you need someone influencial (a governor or legate) with whom you have high relation (+50 maybe).

I really like the idea of pre-emperor quests that would work in and highlight the major political factions in Rome, providing a backdrop against which all the further game events will look more rich and alive. Because I think you have the factions already modelled, i.e. the different families who have good relations between themselves, but oppose a rival family, but this mechanic is not obvious the first time you play. Even after I know to look for them, it's only tangentially visible when you do something good or mean to one character, you might notice a pattern of last names in who likes/dislikes this action. So, having the faction rivalries explained a little through quest texts would be great, and the political faction rivalries could provide interesting setups for freelancer-stage quests, which would explain rewards and fast promotions the player is getting.

The head of the family is Quintus Aemilius (a governor in Spain)
He has sons who are all named XY Aemilius, e.g. Appius Aemilius
He has daughters who are all named Aemilia XY, e.g. Aemilia Prima
But it can happen that I made some mistakes here.
When I wrote this, I noticed some inconsistencies, for example, his sister should also be named Aemilia Coponia, instead of simply Coponia. (His wife shouldnt have the Aemilia in front of her name since she should be from another family, otherwise we would have inbreeding I guess)
Also I noticed that a daughter from his sister married one of his sons, which is inbreeding, haha.

I really would like to change the character notes, to give a better overview over all families. But this is in warband bot possible (its hardcoded ui)
What I always wanted to do, is to add a presentation where you have an overview over the Roman families, some kind of family tree. Maybe this comes some day
Some general notes: Rome has several families, who have as head a governor, and the sons are ususally legion commanders.
The auxiliar commendars are usually not part of an impertortant family. They are some random romanizied barbarians. There is also a difference in the faces: all "true" Roman characters, who are part of a family, dont have a beard, as far as I can remember, while the Auxiliar commanders may have beards.
But there are also legion commanders who are not part of a large family. And there are some old widows, who have some children too.
I will probably add some explanation to the game concepts page.
And some quests related to families would be nice, yes.
And a final note: I created all the troops/lords etc. 3 years ago and never made any changes. There are probably mistakes with the family structure, but it is hard to find those mistakes, since the character notes are, in my opinion, confusing.
And another note: The whole system in warband is made for character interactions, not really families interaction. Diplomacy tries to add at least basic family stuff. In bannerlord on the other hand, such stuff would be super easy, since they change the interactions between the different characters to interactions between clans (=families)
Even if these quests don't have too much mechanical effect, it can still be fun writing. e.g. sure, ideally if you have a quest to intercept caravans of some nation because that nation's trade benefits family A much more than family B, you should have relations up with all of B and down with all of A, but if that's tricky, a simple up with the quest giver and his friends and down with his enemies would work.
That is not really that tricky, diplomacy does a good job here.
Anyway, I will at least add something in games concept and fix inbreeding of Aemilus family.
Maybe I will add some basic quests with families, which you gain from lords. I like that idea. Lets see.
I wasn't sure if it's a bug or on purpose, considering what was going on with noble families in later historical periods, lol.
Just like it was in Nova Aetas mod.
It was fairly entertaining realism feature to me and your commander giving you pack of cheap drinks and cheap food while enlisted would be fun.
