Rutted Moor Guide (updated version 1_35)

V) Opens passage at V1.

1) Underwater platform – hold your breath to spawn a magic bridge/teleport.
2) Ornate key dropped by Dolmen at 2a), used to unlock door at 2b). Lever SSW of 2b) opens passage to the Dunes. A key lock in a wall just SE of 2b) opens a teleport to the southern isle (accessed by crossing the river near X).
3) Use rusty lever multiple times to lower the bridge.
4) Tunnel through the Grotto leading from a) to b). Below, find the timed backdoor teleporter
that appears after opening the impassable door.

5) Visit the circles (underwater platforms), then return to step on the plate.
The "X" will no longer teleport projectiles and allow crossing the river.

6) Levers at 6a), 6b) and the pressure plate at 6c) open the entrance at b).
7) Use the dark bolt spell or dark wand to "bring the dark".
8) Pressure plate opening the ruins at 9a).
9) Defeat the crab at 9a) to open the sealed ruins at 9b). Use another ornate key to open the exit to the west and spawn a bridge over the river to the east.

Hello BunkerKnacker! I'm leaving this comment here since I bought this game from Humble Bundle and found this mod on the Nexus, and it won't let me post one in the other section without subscribing to this mod via Steam.

First I'd like to say that I'm enjoying it quite a bit so far, and that like many others, the Rutted Moor is driving me a bit crazy! I'm mostly done with the area, but I can't figure out the puzzle I assume is involved with the letter you find, the one with the roman numerals with an X in the middle.

I found the 4 plate/hidden button spots around the edge of the map, but I'm not sure what the X in the middle is referring to. I guess I also might not know what the numbers mean relative to the plates, am I correct in thinking its the number of times each must be pressed?

A hint would be much appreciated, or even just the solution, at this point I really want put the Moor behind me! Assuming you see this, thanks for your time!

Hey there, Mongoose,

you have basically figured it out already, the last step is fairly simple:

The plates beneath each of the ruins buttons just reset their counter. The "X" is the central dome a few steps east of 9b) on the map (at the northern edge of the pit). Activating the lever should give access to the altar nearby if the sequence is correct.


Currently working on version 1.3 for NexusMods in which the whole swamp area will be less guesswork, including this puzzle (no pressure plates and the X is the actual target location).

Is it just that i am blind but i sure cant find the key at 2a .. buried or laying around and killed a Toad he did not drop it .. you change it on new Version ??

You are right, it used to be inside the toad, now it is a bit to the south, in the NW corner of the pit (dig hole).

Well kinda stuck geting to plate at 8 is it from part of the Grotto up ? .. need to get over to 9a i have done everything else except 7 on the east side not sure where to fire darkness

I did the #7 darkness on the east side was easy just didnt try it lol .. still i have looked and thrown stuff and dug places .. the 8 you have marked up on the map dosent seem to have a way in to it ??

After a redesign the keylock SE of 2b) is hard to detect from the eastern side (near sealed mine spear door). Once you kill the mimic close by, use the brass key on the wall (facing east) and a teleport to the southern island appears.
Note that this has been fixed in the current version (1.33).

Uploaded a 1_35 version with the new areas added and changed the text accordingly. Let me know if anything else is missing/different. Else, feel free to close the gaps or write down your personal guide for fellow adventurers?
