Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire

Aloth, new and improved

Your very own customizable wizard buddy
Since the "Agreeable Aloth" option is apparently no more, here's another solution for anyone out there who's not afraid of poking at the game files just a bit.

Download this mod, then open the mod file called characters.gamedatabundle with a basic text editor (the file should be located within your Steam folder at Pillars of Eternity II\PillarsOfEternityII_Data\override\Aloth, new and improved) and search for this exact string:

"TopicID":"c1ba1910-2eb9-447c-924d-2875f1ecf213","Axis":"Positive","WeightID":"c131acce-6af4-4d78-b0e2-48b26e6631b1"

Within that string, delete "c1ba1910-2eb9-447c-924d-2875f1ecf213" (which will remove Aloth's skulduggery disposition) and substitute whichever of these you like better:

"51f0db73-b83e-4906-a47d-b5fb2f25f27d" (if you want Aloth to approve of anti-God sentiment)
"94f2f608-a765-4e55-be0a-c3dddaa54d47" (if you want Aloth to approve of pro-God sentiment)
"9603686d-ed03-4ddf-8ceb-c4850bed75ac" (if you want Aloth to approve of worldliness over provincialism)
"890fe263-b36c-471d-8db4-8916a4589caa" (if you want Aloth to approve of provincialism over worldliness)

Then you'll have a custom Aloth of your very own! There are other options buried within the file too, I can dig 'em out if someone's curious, but those seemed like the best possible fits for the grumpy elf.

I can't thank you enough for this! Now I can finally have the playthrough I've always wanted.

Ok, I followed these directions and substituted wordliness for skuduggery, but I'm having the same problem that I had with the "Agreeable Aloth" mod.

It shows up correctly on Aloth's reputation page, but he still shows 0 under his name for everyone. Same for my Watcher. However, on Eder's page it is showing up correctly, that he has +1 with Aloth.

Also, in the mod manager it doesn't have a version number.

Unfortunately I've never had that problem and I can't do any testing myself. You could try using the Unity console mod on Nexus (if it still works) to add approval artificially for further testing. Did you uninstall the AA mod completely?

No idea why it would affect the version number either, the manifest file wasn't touched, but Steam does weird things sometimes.

I figured out the version number problem. I was using the download from the Nexus site and then putting that in the override folder. It does not have a manifest file.

When downloaded from Steam, the files go into SteamApps\workshop\content\56130\1510906383 at least for me.

I don't know if that was the problem, but it's working great now! Thanks again!

Steam sometimes puts mods into the override folder and sometimes into a different folder altogether - I have no idea why. Folks occasionally have to shift between them to get things working right. I don't even have the folder you mentioned; there might be different folders for different users or it might get deleted when the game is uninstalled. Oy. This is why I generally prefer Nexus, but I can understand why Steam works better for some people.

Glad it's working now - enjoy!
