Mod Manager

Suggestion: Category System
So as a User who somehow managed to sub to over 200 MODs by now, the MOD Manager became a necessity. But now, at 200 Mods, even the Mod Manager reaches its Limits. So i was wondering if it would be possible to add a Custom-Categories-Option to the Mod Manager.

Mainly for the active MODs Column, but if possible, i wouldn't say No to the inactive MODs list too.

The idea is to make managing your MOD even more convenient, sorted and easy to manage by being able to create and add your own custom categories to the Active MODs List.
To visualize what i mean. i photoshopped two Screenshots real quick:

All those Hair-MODs![gyazo.com]

So, as mentioned, this is just a quick unprofessional photoshopped screenshot.

As you can see, i've quit a few Hair-Mods, taking up alot of space in my MOD-List, i highlighted them in a brown color to better distinguish them from the other MODs. But wouldn't it be great if i could create a category that i could name "Hair MODs" for example and that i can expand and collapse at will and add and remove my wanted Hair-Mods from there.

Different Categories for Maximum Management![gyazo.com]

A Minus-Symbol is indicating that the List is currently expanded and can be collapsed, a Plus Symbol is indicating that the List is currently collapsed and can be expanded.

Numbers don't lie - How crazy are you for MODs?[gyazo.com]

Another neat thing could be, but is not really a necessity, to add a Number behind the Category, indicating how many MODs are currently sitting in said Category.

I don't know if someone else might've made such a suggestion in the comments already, so please forgive me that i was to lazy to read through 19 pages of comments below this MOD. :snowslimehappy: And i'm well aware that this might maybe not even be possible through a conflict with the RimWorld Code or whatever. But i just thought i would leave the idea here. If Fluffy can't do it, then i don't know who could. ;-)

Great idea ! next thing could be to integrate ModSync with it (modders collab ?) just sayin...

Btw i'm curious OP, how much time does it take for your game to load with 200+ mods active ??

I don't have all 200 MOD active atm as i've encountered some severe errors and try to analyze them first before adding more, but it already takes a few minutes to load. :snowslimehappy:

I have about 265 mods active, and I can say that it takes about 20 minutes for my game to fully load, and that is with a 960 EVO.

Also, I would love a system like this!
I could just chuck all my mods in categories like "Core", "QoL", "Content" etc

This would be awesome if it's possible! I've been manually writing my mod categories into a Notepad (dependencies, world gen, incidents, medical, interface, etc.), ordering and color coding accordingly.

I agree completely. collapsable, custom categories would be great. I'd also ask for some default custom categories as mentioned above, such as QoL, Content/Game Changers, Libraries, Visuals (e.g. Hair Mods). I'd love this for the Inactive list as well so I can create a category of Waiting For Update or Conflict Found.

Thanks for all you do!

I also came here to suggest this but saw this was already suggested so here we are. Having 300+ mods (working well) i can honestly say this is REALLY needed.. I'm colour-coding them but it's not enough.

Additionally, an option to select multiple mods at a time (while hold control maybe?) to be able to batch-move to a location in the load order would be significantly helpful.

@Irradiatedscone Same, about 10min for all mods to load and let me even load the game, then loading the game is like another 5. running about 300 or so.

I absolutely add my vote for this feature too! being able to split into groups would be a godsend

tbh you can just use the Modlists, as you can Load them after each other. Tats how I organize mine you can even put mods in multiple lists

@AC.Seth Agreed, I already do this too, but I'm here because I agree with the OP, collapsible name-able file trees, or some similar categorization system would be awesome. also just totaled it up, my personal list was 316 mods right before the 1.1 drop. At over 200 mods, it really would be nice to be able to hide groups of mods in a folder, instead of scrolling past a 100 or so mods, just to remove a bugged one or something. Now I use a computer, but I used to play this on an Elitebook laptop, with only the touchpad, and you would be surprised how much you come to hate scrollbars when you dont have a mousewheel. :P N since the 1.1 update is kinda forcing all mod developers to re-evaluate their coding, if Fluffy is gonna change anything with ModManager, my number one request would be categorization.

I like dis. I was kind of trying to do this with the color feature.

Came here to suggest some kind of option the make folders, this is exactly what I had in mind, It would be so satisfiying to stuff all those vannila expanded mods into 1 folder. Qol into another folder and so on!

+1 good suggestion

If at all possible, I would love to see this too.

I've got a hacky way of organising things in the meantime, but it's not the best way to do things and you'll get empty mod warnings on load:
  1. create (your category) folder
  2. 'about' folder inside
  3. 'about.XML' with ModMetaData filled out - (your category) for name
  4. Add to ../Rimworld/Mods folder

I certainly love this idea.

For awhile I've Just been using the color option and Fluffy's tab mods as category Indicators.
The thing about this idea though, is that it would also require modder's to code in the category of the mod for this to work in any sort of auto sort function.
