My Review
What attracted me to Carpat was the lack of loot available. In other maps food and water are no longer an issue after just a few scavenging trips. In Carpat however you're forced to grow food and build rain barrels to survive. This map also made a lot better use of the makeshift items (wooden jerrycans, bottles) since the better alternatives are very difficult to find. Though I did find the low spawn rates frusturating when trying to find a blowtorch and gasmask which I ended up just spawning in. Unfortunately Carpat's flaws begin to show when you start properly exploring. Missing terrain (particularly in the Safezone!), bland locations, floating trees and empty buildings. In most towns you can find boarded up houses where the only entrance is through a window which you require ladders to reach. I got thinking, "I bet there's good loot in that house!" What was inside? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. I don't know if the creators meant for this to be a ready-to-decorate base for multiplayer, but it was still a big disappointment. NPC text also has numerous errors (from poor translation I assume). I understand they wanted to give Carpat a harsh/barren feel, but I still wish the towns at least had some interesting decor or landmarks. I liked the mutant animals since they meant you were constantly looking around for danger, considering how much damage they do. By far the biggest disappointment was the deadzones and the total lack of valuable loot they had. The Bunker gave me next to nothing while the Lost Valley was just as poor. Little incentive to visit either one. Overall I think this map had great potential but a lack of polishing has ruined the experience for me.
