Tutorial: Adjusting Survivor Party Size and Keeping Your Choice of Character
If you followed the tutorial in the description of placing the configuration files inside the right folders, continue. If you haven't, and you don't know how to do either of the steps, refer back to author's description before continuing.

How to Change Survivor Party Size

Follow this filepath: Steam Library < steamapps < common < Left 4 Dead 2 < left4dead2 < cfg < sourcemod

Inside this folder, locate a file named l4d_superversus. Open the file within Notepad or Notepad++ (or some other text editing program).

After opening the file, use Ctrl + F to look for this value l4d_survivor_limit. It should be underneath the Maximum Amount of Survivors.
(Alternatively, use Maximum Amount of Survivors if you have trouble looking for l4d_survivor_limit.

Once you're in the l4d_survivor_limit field, change the number inside of the quotations. Do NOT remove the quotations.

You can increase or decrease the number of survivor bots.
Example
l4d_survivor_limit "4" (Changes your party size to 4)
l
l4d_survivor_limit "8" (Changes your party size to 8)

Whether it holds more than one human player, I am not sure of that. That is a different can of worms to tackle on another day.

If you managed to do these steps correctly, and the changes reflects in game...
You should be able to have your custom numerical unit of survivors standing before you, and you should still have the ability to change your characters with commands such as !pickbot or !charactername.

how do i make it so not twice as much zombies and infected spawns bc i get 2x more zombies bc im playing with 8 players

@thatshoagie I've stated this many times in the comments section. If the static amount of survivors are more than 4, zombies will also be multiplied and that is to compensate for the total survivors available. If its difficult to handle more zombies then pair this mod with Competitive Bots+. Surely the bots will protect you at all cost and also steals your kills so might as well be competitive.

@thatshoagie

To cut down on zombie size, use the command
!limit common <number>

Use this command without the brackets, and that will adjust the number of common zombies.

There is also a command of limiting how many Special Infected can appear on screen. You can use similar commands for limiting which kind of Special Infected can spawn (Tanks and Witches included).

The only requirement is that every time you load up the game and host a lobby, make sure that these settings are input each time so your FPS will run at better frames.

NOTE: I'm not sure if more than 8 players will be able to join with this addon either, but that would be a cool thing so we wouldn't always have to do survival if we want to play with more than 8 players.

I noticed when someone joined, and then chose another survivor bot - the game would crash so there might be something to fix that.

Is it possible to have less than 4 survivors without any glitches n stuff ?
Nicky Grimes Mar 25, 2023 @ 5:04am
@star - When you edit the party size, the director adjusts to it. Give it a try if you haven't.

no matter what i do to change the survivor bot limit, it keeps spawning 4 extra bots instead of 1. am i doing something wrong???
Nicky Grimes Jun 11, 2023 @ 3:45pm
To better answer @star's question: If you have less than 3 survivors, or want to play with 2 survivors - the game shouldn't be adding in more bots as editing the l4d_survivor_limit will also tell the game to adjust how many Special Infected and Commons should spawn.

A cool feature that Valve put so it'll make it bearable. If you're looking to play with just 2 survivors, just use the "Two of Us" addon on the workshop.

Hi there, I have set the survivor limit to 7 as I prefer not having bill from the l4d 1 survivors in the game but each time I start a game, the game pairs me with bill, zoey and francis, can you please provide me a way to swap bill with louis instead?
Nicky Grimes Jun 21, 2023 @ 10:31am
@7Kaii: The system automatically pairs survivors that's respective to their campaigns.
L4D1 campaigns - L4D1 survivors, L4D2 campaigns - L4D2 survivors.

Only way that's worked so far is:
- Use the !pickbot OR /pickbot command. Choose a survivor and then change them into the characters you want.
- Repeat this with each bot you want to change them to.

In your scenario, it would be like this:
1. !pickbot bill
2. Change Bill to Louis with: !louis
3. Use !pickbot again to switch back to the character you want.

That's the only way I know for right now, but this works better than the other survivor replacement mods I've seen on the workshop. They also come equipped with better talking lines and awareness of environmental changes.

@Ejuss: I don't recommend that mod as myself and others have said that it didn't work for us after The Last Stand update.

The following tutorial and mod that I've shared below are the best ones.
Both have modders who know what they're doing and can redirect you to better resources if you still have trouble installing this.

Both tutorial and mod cuts to the chase with the instructions. Follow this to the letter, and you'll have a working lobby in no time.

If you're still having trouble with these very simple mods, the only advice I can suggest for you at this point would be to ask at the Dead 4 Mods Discord, as they have other people who can help with more complex issues than stated here. Cheers.
