So, smoothed walls from faux rock mod can be marked for engraving, but the pawn will stop in front of it and the will occasionally chuck an error https://gist.github.com/HugsLibRecordKeeper/6d5467bfcbcb13b8931130c5499e4d64

Thank you for the report. Unfortunately the primary cause of the problem is that the Faux Rock mod does not following Def conventions for natural stone which is causing the automatic generation of the Engraved Def for FauxRock to fail.

I'll see if there's any error handling I can put in on my end to prevent that from occurring, but actually allowing the rocks to be engraveable would require either that the mod implement all of the fields that natural stone has (a mineable, smoothable, isNaturalRock Def), or an explicit compatibility patch which is not something I am willing to commit to maintaining.

I guess you could go ask the mod maker if they are willing to fix their things

That's because it shouldn't be considered natural stone for balancing reasons.
But it was also impossible to make it work in earlier versions of the game, so I gave up on that.

I'm trying to get my mod compatible with engraving, but your mod just throws up errors for me on v1.2. (Can't test 1.3 as you've not updated to that yet at the time of writing.)

EDIT: All should be working after our cooperation!

Two things I noticed.
One: When building an over-wall vent on an engraved wall, they mined it out instead of just building it. This item comes from replace stuff if I consider right.

Two: An inspired pawn engraved a wall and only got a good product despite having max skill. It seems inspiration does not allow for the creation of legendary engravings.

do overwall vents go over smooted walls? Also, your inspired pawn must have rolled a nat 1, inspiration raises quality by 2, and iits still possible to make crap with max skill

Over wall vents do indeed go over smooth walls, just like power lines. heck, it seems that trying to build anything in engraved walls that would be accepted by smooth walls designates them for mining (might be replace stuff mod not seeing them as valid walls I do think that one auto-designates them for mining)

2. Might be, but inspiration was not consumed. He made a legendary gladius right after that

Can you cancel the mining desgination and make someone build there?
Stim The One Oct 7, 2021 @ 2:59pm
Even when cancelling the designation, no matter the building put inside, they still mine it out.

Though, yes... IF the items were built in the smooth wall BEFORE it was engraved, it's all fine. The problem comes if you want to build more.

One option to make sure they don't mine the wall is just to smooth it back before building.

I can double check this weekend, but I'm very confident this is a "replace stuff" mod problem. I have an idea of WHY that might be the case which should be easy to confirm. But without any other mods installed power lines go under engraved walls just fine.

2) I'll look in to consuming inspiration again, but if I recall the reason I didn't do that in the first place was because it would require me either patching the vanilla artistic inspiration which could have had adverse affects on other mods, or adding a unique inspiration for the walls. I could be misremembering though so I'll check.

Well, the second one is not that big of a deal for me
The first.... well, let's say I require commitment before engraving walls.
Or I smooth them if I wanna build inside them, which I did to add some vents I forgot.
