STAR WARS™ Empire at War: Gold Pack

STAR WARS™ Empire at War: Gold Pack

Awakening of the Rebellion 2.11.9: Jump To Hyperspace
New to this and prefer casual but love this mod
So as the title says im new to this and I would like to just casual play and play as the Empire to idk rp I guess? And I know this mod is as said not for the faint of heart so to speak.

So I play on normal difficulty, however i've noticed that even then its still quite hard (just get good, skill issue yeah heard it all before lmao and I guess fair enough)

Like setting up proper economy stuff and focusing on tech all easy enough but the space battles and ground battles feel so complex, im on week 7 and already had nearly my entire fleet destroyed fighting 1 space battle and I had to resort to hit and run tactics as the Empire like.. What? Now granted im really bad at micro managing so doing all the fleet compositions and move this ship individually to here and put that ship in backline there, select fighters and bombers to have em do this its not something im good at and well yeah it explains why I lose easily fair enough and ive tried to do it but it just makes me impatient and frustrated.

Ground battles like.. I question how some planets this early in game time are THAT well defended and heavily garrisoned. Especially against a force like the empire which later in game time would make sense but not this early, again week 7.

It got to the point that im using WeMod now to essentially.. Well cheat. Infinite health and credits, infinite spacw station health, and unlimited unit capacity but that one doesnt work, and the health one only affects capitals and some cruisers and dreadnoughts, nothing else. Fair enough.

But I also noticed it doesnt work AT ALL for ground forces so whelp get good I guess.

Additionally if im fighting a space battle where a planet has a hyper velocity cannon on the planet surface? It rips through my infinite health ISD's and other infinite health affected ships like butter.. So somehow that cannon manages to break a cheat.

Overall I effin love this mod and I love awakening of the clone wars, the story stuff and new mechanics and systems its why I want to play it over base vanilla Empire At War, but my lack of skill and lack of being good at micro managing and strategy makes it impossible to get further and I really want to work fowards getting the Death Star 2 and be a menace to the galaxy (haha edgy rp) but with how difficult everything is I dont think I can, I wish there was a way to be able to play this more casually and still get the full experience somehow but I dont think I can like this.

Long story short if theres any advice and tips people can give me on how to not suck at being the Empire for a more casual player like me, id really appreciate it. I heard spamming gazanti's (propably worded wrong) is really useful early on untill you can get more cruiser variants. But yeah any advice would be welcome cuz I really want to play this mod cuz of what it has story and mechanics wise.

How are you cheating that much and still losing? Like how is that even possible? You have infinite credits, you can just autoresolve everything!

If you genuinely want to learn, stop cheating and accept that you're gonna lose a few times before you learn how to win. This mod is never going to be for players as casual as yourself though.

That is exactly why I am making this post, im looking for tips and tricks and where to look for good learning curves, it's not like I want to cheat I do want to get better, but I am just so bad at this type of stuff or rather a very slow learner due to irl complications that even like walkthroughs or explenations from like youtubers are hard for me to learn from especially when said youtube vids its like fast paced. Just looking here for a good bit of starter advice. I plan on doing clean saves with no cheats. Thought maybe someone in here could give me a good startup goal to aim for that type of thing.

Perhaps you would be better off practising with the base game first? AotR is one of the hardest mods.

I mean yeah probably, just really love the idea of playing from the clone wars up to imperial and AOTR and AOTCW fit just that, im probably just gonna try and learn it the hard way but I might also mess around in the vanilla as you said, I am a slow learner so maybe if I just try my best and not be afraid of losing battles I might learn.

I'll also try again to watch some walkthroughs and guides again hopefully I can still learn from that, it just felt overwhelming at first but ive read up on some tricks and tips since I posted this and been watching quite a few videos.

Just hoped there may have been easier ways. In any case thanks for responding!

feel free to give me a poke. We probably can figure something out for the weekend to get you some training.
Give both of the base games (EaW and FoC) stories a playthrough. They'll take you through the three vanilla factions while teaching you each mechanic at the same time. Again, these are the vanilla mechanics, but that should help you with the basics so you can try to return to this mod again knowing that.

Oh yeah for sure, i've been practicing and forcing myself to actually properly utilize my fighters and bombers and group them together like Fighters 1, bombers 2, and then frigates or cruisers ect sometimes ill group them as 3. Its... Really alien to me to do this but im getting a bit more strategical about my approach instead of just select all > throw at enemy.
I would recommend Empire as it's easier to learn, mostly because they have access to space mines and ground mining facilities (unlike the Rebellion), which usually makes it easier to get rich quickly.

Learning the mod really does come with time. I usually prioritize high eco worlds in the early game and then research technologies later. The tooltips usually provide sufficient context for which worlds are the most useful to you, but again, a bit of experience is involved.

Like you, I also got wiped during my first few space battles, much to my frustration. Keep in mind that tier 1 space units will be more likely to die to pesky independent worlds and pirates. Also, if there's anything I've learned from this mod, it's that you can't get away with capital ship spam quite like you can in vanilla. Support ships are excellent for jamming missiles, zapping torpedoes and other such nuisances. Even so, I repeat myself: it takes time to learn which ships are good against what.

Personally I haven't had many issues with ground battles. I suppose I'd need more context to figure out what's hampering your progress there. I will mention that the Empire's Army Troopers are utter garbage and you should advance to using stormtroopers as soon as possible.

Thank you so much for all the advice, and everyone else too actually. I've been on the grind and have learned the love of support ships, point defense, and utilizing abilties when needed, ive had some losses and ive had some major wins the moment I actually put myself more into the tactical mindset. I've grown to actually really enjoy looking at my fighters hunt after enemy bombers, or for them to go in waves after a major fighter force while also sending my support anti-fighter ships at em from a distance ranging down fire.

I am not quite there yet but maybe im atleast in a better position to actually learn from experience now.

Some ships may not look pretty and awe inspiring or cool like the ISD's.. But they are trully amazing in their own right and can turn the tide of battle even in bad situations is what i've found out, and i'll still take losses but im actually slowly learning now.
Mod is easy even on hardest :) Look at some YT playthroughs would be my advice if you have issues. Go mechanized.

Mod is a lot of fun when you know what your doing, this mod is easily my favourite star wars game.If your struggling against rebel fighter stacks I recommend Star Galleons they are incredibly strong, almost to strong. Also ensure planets like Courscant and Aten 3 are completely specialised for the economy alongside that spam out trade ships as the Empire you can easily generate 40k a week if you spam these out.But yeah don't use we mod for Awakening it ruins the core experience since you wont value your units as much and you wont make good tactical decisions. This mod rewards smart fleet compositions and tactics so mix and match and figure out what works to your play style.
