This is the first time I've heard of Green Leader not working. It's not an ability on his card, it just triggers when you move him to the bridge of the executor.
I have also tried to move up to what would appear to be the actual bridge, and that did nothing as well. I am pretty sure Green Leader used to have an ability specifically for targeting the Executor.
Have you at any point scaled up the Executor? Would it be possible to increase the map size so that half the ship is not out of bounds?
As for the bombers, it drastically decreases their effectiveness against the Executor, as the only "viable" target for them is the hull. Targeting a subsystem results in very long bombing runs, which ends up with massive overkills, and if you manually give them a new target on approach, half the time they turn around for a new run, rather than continuing on the current approach and keep firing.
I finally destroyed it, but rather than feeling accomplishment for completing the mission, it just felt extremely tedious and boring. You can get the mission way before you are capable of completing it(I was around week 70), meaning you might have to try it several times until you understand what the mission requires to win.
Facing off 15 SDs of various sizes plus the Executor, and the only thing you can do is brawl it out fielding a much superior fleet. Losing what is essentially 200k worth of ships is just a bad feeling, and the final explosion(with no clear indication from which direction the explosion is coming from. I thought it was from the north) is the final nail.
1) You either barely succeed the mission and now have to spend a long time rebuilding what we must assume is the majority of your fleet.
2) You brought such a massive fleet that you dominated the battle and now the rest of the galaxy cant stop your grand armada after the mission is done.
I got the mission around week 70, which is way earlier than you can feasibly complete it.
I first attempted with 5 capital ships(which included Home One), several frigates and corvettes, as well as several Y-wings and X-wings. This was roughly 50% of my entire force, with the rest still on "guard" duty, so that I wouldnt lose territory while assembling and moving the fleet.
Of course, it turned out that this fleet did neither have the firepower, nor the durability to deal with 15 SDs and the Executor. I lost about 1 hour worth of progress, but that is kind of on me for not saving before the battle.
So I thought, well, I will gather a bunch of B-wings for damage and add 3-4 more capital ships(Justice) to help tank the damage for Home One. After all, it seemed like I just needed to hold out long enough for Rogue Squadron and Lando to their thing.
Turned out, that was not enough either. Since I could not trigger the action of Green Leader, I HAD to destroy the Executor the normal way, and the issues with the bomber's pathing meant they were too slow to deal enough damage to the Executor before they had killed Home One again.
So once more, I had to go back to the drawing board, increase my economy even more, increase my tech levels and get something that could shoot big holes into big things and not die too quickly(Dauntless and MC30).
And finally, around week 100, I was able to complete the mission.
However, now I had such a massive advantage due to the insane amount of ships and bombers I had built, that the rest of the galactic map stood no chance.
So the result after the mission(which was a boring slug-fest) was me steam-rolling the remaining imperial strong points.
There was little point in having advanced to the New Republic Era, as I had no need for the new tech or the ships and armies it provided.
To make a comparison.
Imagine if you played a Lord of the Rings strategy game. At the battle of Minas Tirith, instead of letting go of the invincible ghost army, you kept it, and completely dominated the rest of the campaign. There was no epic last stand in front of the Black Gates, you overran it, and completely conquered Mordor as well.
That was how it felt here.
Because the mission had forced me to build such a massive fleet due to a bug(Green Leader not working), afterwards, the AI was completely incapable of mounting any resistance and simply felt like clean up.
If you could just let the mission "sit" there, while you do other things, it would not matter as much. You could wait until you felt like completing it.
But the thing is that a lot of your stealth heroes are "trapped" on Endor until you complete it. And you are still getting missions that might involve said heroes, or even require you to go to Endor(I was asked to do reconnaissance there even though I hadnt completed the Battle of Endor mission yet, so that was weird).
So yeah, that mission just felt bad. It hijacked 4 of my heroes for 30 weeks. It made me waste my time on several attempts to figure out the victory conditions. And afterwards, it had made sure that the rest of the game became a clean up chore rather than being excited about the creation of the New Republic and using the new tech.
Several things could be done to make the mission more enjoyable, and that is not accounting for the Green Leader bug or the issue with bomber pathing against the Executor.
