There is no "perfect" ending. There are a few minor variations in how things can go down depending on who you bring with you, who remains behind, your past and current relationships with various people, etc., but there will probably be at least a little sadness in any conclusion.
Of course, it ultimately depends on the player and how they feel about their companions. A few people have been fully satisfied with the "sacrifice other" ending, but I think most folks will feel some regret regardless of what they choose.
Congrats on your victory! And you have my permission to stop flailing.
After rolling back my saves a few times, I think the self-sacrifice ending had the strongest emotional impact. It was very bittersweet.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I think both endings are valid, but I agree that this particular ending can have a stronger impact, especially if you identify with your character.
In my play through I left the PU in a strong position but stuck to my principles rather than throw my lot in with Dorbi and the corps. Meaning the PU was 'shut out of the post-Saito regieme', which makes a lot of sense. I'm still glad with the choice, the PU still fighting the good fight from the sidelines and shadows seems a better ending for it than being the face for the power hungry and wealthy! Plus Nova wern't exactly ever going to be fans after I shut *everyone* out of Fuchi.
That said, I'm curious about how things turned out for the PU when they sided with Dorbi?
I'm just happy I got a Dragon speaking at my funeral, and not that turn coat queen beneath the mountain.
Pfff... well, new run and this time my characte will survive... maybe...
My dwarf was the strong and charismatic leader of the PU, not necesseraly the nicest but just and practical. Kora is too important for the PU, Masao the one who could contact marines and turn them over Saito... Meft me with Isao and Aralia... Those two was great choice for self sacrifice but my cute little dwarf was with Isao... Aralia, you died a hero.
Really great campaign with really good character. Like for caceldot, I really liked my own character who has a past, a family and even a futur (make it really hard to sacrifice my elf in my first run). Too few games and story work really on the MC and make him/her a real part of the story and the universe. Great job.
And I really really want a sequel when a new character can punch Saito in the face... and the nuke him.
If you played The Caldecott Caper before playing Calfree in chains, everything you need to know to get the best possible ending is given to you IF YOU PAY ATTENTION.
In the second visit to Berkley, Hestaby speaks; Pay close attention to what she says
C'mon! What does she say? I'm dead curious now! I'm traumatized by the ending.
I cannot remember exact verbiage but paraphrased,
get ALL the different metas to form an alliance against Saito and blow up the space station, oh and stay single more or less
