Leave Lords Army without Deserting?

I'm in early Game - i joined Godfrey De Bouillon as a soldier, fought a bit, but then got (i) a task from him to hunt down a criminal and (ii) then was allowed to raise a mercenary band - but iI cannot leave his army without deserting?
