Description
Introduction to the Compatibility Version
This is a compatibility version of the Expanded Stellaris Traditions mod
( http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=946222466 ). While that mod is more or less compatible with all other mods (see compatibility notes of that mod) there can be some conflicts. Among other things that mod modifies the vanilla traditions to some extent (to provide a better traditions set I moved some traditions that better suited a new tree). While that version is the one I personally use I made this version as well for those that want to keep full compatibility.

There have changes to some traditions (full change list under discussions), among other things Liberty reduction to liberate planet war demand have been changed to a combat bonus while at war with empires enabling slaver and/or purging. Academic Towers of Ivory gives you a small chance to gain a tech every year.

Intro
This is a new Tradition mod introducing a total of 19 new Traditions into the game. When making the Tradition Trees I have first tried to come up with a strong theme, what kind of empire would have these traditions. Next I have tried to come up with bonuses and sub themes that fitted and finally put those together to form the individual traditions within the tree.

I have tried to mix more standard modifier (like Government Ethics Attraction) with more interesting stuff like bonuses under certain conditions (being at war, planets with high species diversity, not having diplomatic relations etc.) or other stuff (bonus unity from destroying enemy ships and stations, adding new traits to leaders, unlocking new buildings...).

Mod Info
This mods adds 19 new traditions with a variety of new bonuses.

I have tested all tradition effects, read and re-read all the descriptions. It is quite a large mod so some errors might have appeared. However they should be quite minor (probably some effects not firing under some special cases I might have missed). Message me if you find something and I will fix it asap and if there is any errors they will hopefully be sorted out quite soon. There might also be some balance problems in the beginning. I think it is quite good. In most cases I tried to make things a bit weaker, rather than risking overpowered stuff (with some exceptions when I wanted some things to stand out. But I tried to balance with weaker traditions in the rest of the tree).

In some cases old traditions had a theme better suiting some of my new tradition categories. For example the Trans-Stellar Companies Tradition earlier were a part of the Prosperity Tree. When I added the Commerce Tree I figured TSC better fitted it and moved it over. In these cases I have replaced the traditions moved from the old trees with new ones (A Golden Age added to Prosperity). In a few cases, to prevent stacking of the same bonus several times, I have swapped out bonuses in the old trees (- Consumer Good Cost in Harmony was swapped for + Faction Influence). The number of instances of this is quite few (4 bonuses moved, 2 swapped for new bonuses, and one bonus partially modified, full list at the end of the tradition list). I have some ideas of re balancing the old traditions, but I wanted to wait and see depending on the reception.

Why More Traditions are Needed
I really liked it when Traditions were added to the game, I think they added some good opportunity to customize and role-play your empire. However the tradition selection were very limited in two senses:
- Few Traditions means a fewer number of traditions that fits your empires "lore". I once made and isolationist race that mostly wanted to be left for them self, developing their land (as opposed to expanding). Their goes traditions Expansion, Domination, Diplomacy and Supremacy out of the window. That leaves with with 3 traditions that don't contradict my theme (if I mentioned that they were highly religious then Discovery is not super ok either). Especially since you want all those Accession Perks you quite quickly have to adopt traditions that doesn't really fit (and were 2/3 of the traditions doesn't really improve your play style).
- Since there are so few traditions you will most likely adopt all of them (unless you play a short game). So whatever type of empire you play you will always converge to the same tradition set. Sad!
To make role playing (and playing in general) more fun I felt that the game dearly needed more traditions, so I added a few.
(I encourage the guys at Paradox to add more traditions. I guess it is one of a hundred of the things they have on their to-do list...)

Tradition List
I will make a post in Discussions with the full list of effects and additional details.
Academy, Administratum, Commerce. Confederacy. Cybernetics, Faith, Foundation, Industry, Isolation, Justice, Liberty, Malice, Mechanicum, Militarism, Mysticism, Nature, Order, Proselytism, Purity.

Compatibility
Tradition mods are by nature not compatible with each other, since they need to design the UI individually. Otherwise this mod is compatible with all other mods.

Plans and Ideas
- Currently Working on an Ascension Perk mod.
- More Traditions.
- Trees with > 5 traditions.
- Hive Mind Traditions (If I can get large trees).
- Balance.
- Re balancing vanilla traditions (depending on what people think of it).

Quite a few thing in this mod is inspired by their work (but no code or images has been taken! Stealing is not ok!).
- Making a Malice Tradition Tree was his idea. I liked their idea very much and felt I couldn't make a good Tradition mod without having that tree. Two of the bonuses are also the same as in his mod, but otherwise the traditions are quite different.
- Initially I called my Fait traditions Piety, but when I checked out their mod I felt that Faith sounded better and changed it.
- I saw how they "collapsed" the Discovery tree to make the layout more compact, and use that idea.
- They figured out how to make the scrollbar so you could fit more traditions in, I used that idea as well.
(There are a few cases were we have traditions with the same name. Except for Malice and Faith these are pure coincident.)
Stellaris Dev Team
- They came up with the Purity Tree (but for some reasons didn't include it in the game, you can still find it in the game files though). I even used some text from them (since I'm making the mod for their game I figured this was ok. If they disagree I can change it :P ).

Thanks
Birdy
- When making the mod, especially the interface, I looked at their mod and the vanilla implementation in tandem. By looking at the differences in implementation and result I managed to figure out how the UI was constructed.
- For being cool with me using some of their ideas.

Cool! I look forward to seeing what you come up with then!

I had Chivalry as an idea before, scratched it due to not coming up with tradition ideas. Your suggestion made me revive the idea though, have a few good ideas now.

Here's another suggestion for a Tradition tree:

Something involving Chivalry or Honorable Warriors. Maybe some of the traditions give bonuses to army morale or pop happiness or even additional unity, or even a new building.

Another good one would be for a Tradition that is very ironfisted in theme and bonuses.

There are no translations for the mod (If anyone want to help, conntact me!). I am travelling, but when I get home I will change it so that other languages uses english localisation. You can do so yourself by openingvthe mod (steam/stram apps/workshop...), go to localisation, copy the englidh files and replace names plus the headers in each file. Otherwise it will be fixed ochn the beginning of august.

There is a Problem when u play Stellaris with different language then english, all the traditions just get the file name, but no text that so u cant seewhat the Traditions rly do. maybe u can fix that, and when u need help in translating let me know. BTW: Great MOD!

I've hit that character limit a few times myself ^^ (including for this mods description). I am thinking something like putting traditions along ethos scale, like something for Materialist, something fore neutral and something for spiritualist. However I have a hard time coming up with what the neutral version for these should be.

Another suggestion for a Tradition Tree would be for well the different Spaceborne Creatures. Mabye a Breeding Tradition Tree or something for each Spaceborne Creature type.

Hm...the Archaeology Tradition Tree suggestion got me thinking of two for when they put the swapping feature into the game: since we got the Liberty Tradition Tree from your mod, maybe something that is thematic for say slavery, a Slaver Tradition Tree?

Also another suggestion I have would be something that would allow you to build monuments or something like the Grand Mauseloum we use to build in the past prior to the new Government and Civics update. These monuments could be pyramids, Grand Mauseloums, statues, royal gardens, palaces, etc. that give you Unity as well as decrease Unrest. Maybe a Legacy Tradition Tree?

Sorry for the double post. It wouldn't let me post due to it being too long.

@Girion

Well, the thing is, I was never happy with the fact that in the vanilla game, you're locked out of the other Ascension paths when you pick the Tier 1 Ascension Path Perk. I understood that it was for balance purposes, but still. I do play with a mod that lets you pick the Tier 1 Ascension Path Perk, but you can only pick one of the three Tier 2 Ascension Path Perks (just to keep things a little balanced now). Still, there was one Traditions Mod where you were required to have one of the perks to adopt that Ascension Path Tradition Tree. I guess you could look at that one and see if you can use that as a spring board to give you some ideas.

would love to try it but can't give up the other 3 (merged) traditions mods. Hoping you will allow compatibility with those mods one day soon!
Girion  [author] Jul 17 @ 2:16pm
That's a good idea. I like ideas for thematic buffs to militarism that doesn't necessarily makes you better and fighting.

Ascension Paths based traditions are an interesting idea. I haven't had any traditions locked things yet, they are doing some modifications with the next patch and I will have to have a think about adding those kinds of traditions, and how to handle them.

(That is something I am happy to have input on, when they add Tradition swapping, how do you want to see it included in this mod? Do you want things like purity tied to fanatic purifiers? Until now I have had everything available to everyone let the player decide for them self, while having weights for the AI)

Archaeology sounds interesting, I will add it to my list of potential themes to make something of.
