Currently if an exclave is owned by a vassal who is generally connected to the main kingdom, the exclave can stay within the realm for 1-2 ruler deaths.
IT'S NOT. It doesn't work.
I use a number of other mods, one being a mod where revolts sometimes break up into independent kingdoms. On such was an empire of Ohrid, which was a horrible bordergore empire with small exclaves all over the game world. No matter how many times I killed its emperor via console commands, the exclaves remained. It wasn't until I used this mod when they finally broke apart.
And yes, this does work with the vanilla game rules. And yes, it does work with the current version of the game.
