I recommend trying out something under the new category of "roads" in the workshop, looking for custom pedestrian paths. The benefit of subscribing to a road category is that you won't have to subscribe to multiple various sizes of parks like this here. You'd only need one.
I made a sort of "proof of concept" in the form of a Winter Promenade - you can check it out here http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1201893219&searchtext=winter
I'd like to try to make a "road" promenade asset to replace of this modular promenade set. People would actually use it as a path. Like the idea?
i think buildings are much more complex because for a good aspect, a 3d soft is necessary.
Thanks for your answer
I have no idea how to make a building, only these parks in the asset editor.
I completely forgot. I made these promenades after being inspired by FlippityFloo's version of this concept. Here are their two collections. They have many more than I made, and they are the same sizes!
1. Regular Tree Promenade Style: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=517390775
2. Tropical Palm Promenade Style: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=505925133
I think you should simply follow your inspiration and go ahead with your own ideas, which looks already nice.
I'd love to create some myself, but each time I tried, I abandoned because I didn't really know how to do. Well I must say I was a developper and burned out 3 years ago... now I can't do my job any more and developping or modding has become a bit too stressing.
Then I'll just say : have a good work and creation time!
Well, to answer your question, it's very difficult...
When I see assets like yours, I'm just admiring the effect and creativity they're showing!
I often wish I could do something I can't in the game, and sometimes I find a nice asset for this, sometimes not. But tell you what I'm looking for or what I would like to see in the game is strangely difficult for me!
What I can maybe say is that I'm always trying to give my cities the same look as I can see in real life. This is obvious and the same for everyone (I suppose), but what I mean is the game is lacking many little landscaping things. There are many such assets in the workshop, but often not exactly what I'm looking for, or not easily usable... So... really difficult to explain what I'd like to see.
- functioing pathways where you would see people actually walking through.
- nice gardening, updated plants that woudl fit in all biomes except snowfall
- new sizes - What do you think ideal sizes could be if these go from one street to the next street?
- consistency in design/layout
The mood lighting and a nice tiled surface will still be a key feature to the design.
Also considering a 1x4 "residential side yard" which you can put inbetween low res houses to easily give space between. The houses in the game are really squashed tight. Nobody has a side yard :D
So I also couldn't get the error to stop showing up using the original file. The prop doesn't exist any more. >:( So, I checked with some modders who understand the game mechanics, and they gave me a reassurance that unlike missing buildings, a missing prop is a mere blip of a problem.... not really one at all they said. So if you want to keep using this you can.
However! There are so many awesome new props, shrubs, flowers etc out there, that I was thinking of doing something just like this, only new and better.
Would you mind giving some ideas of what you'd like to see? (continued)
