Csx Sd40 8888 (crazy eights incident)

Description
credits to train plane fan
the famous runaway train
its a long story
History: from wikipedia and other stuff
On May 15th 2001. a Csx train with 47 cars with one locomotive, Csx 8888, departed Stanley Yard, located in Walbridge, Ohio. While departing, the engineer saw a switch that was misaligned, he stated he would not be able to stop the train in timee dispite moving slowly. he applied the independent air brake, he would used the automatic air brake on the mainline, setting brakes on every car, but he was in a yard, he used dynamic brake to slow down the train, that failed. When doing the independent air brake, it disabled the dead mans switch. he then climbed down the locomotive, and align the switch correctly. however the train kept moving faster as he tried to reboard the train. he was dragged 80 feet, getting minor cuts. he fell off and the train went down a 65 mile journey. The train ranaway the tracks, the engineer warned other dispatchers of the train. A switch was set up with a derailer attempting to derail the train. But the train plowed through the derailer, it still ran down the tracks. Police then shot at the train to hit a shutoff button, it didnt work. Locals tried jumping on the train, but 8888 was going too fast. Meanwhile, a northbound train was directing into a siding, the crew waited for the speeding train to pass and use their engine, Sd40-2 #8392 to couple to the train and slow it down. it chased down the train, Another csx train was up ahead of 8888, Csx Gp38 #6008, to stop 8888 incase 8392 fails. 8392 couples up with 8888, the brakes were applied and csx 8888 was slowed down to 12 mph, then train master Jon Hosfeld climbed aboard the train, shut down the engine, and then csx 8888 comes to a stop.
later on in 2010, the incident will inspire the movie: Unstoppable.
