Gene Menu

Description
Description:
This mod allows you to change biostats of any gene individually, or all of them at once, making genes cost no metabolism, require no archite capsules, or have no complexity (Aka - you can make genes free!).

Mod Settings:

Features:

- After you start the game with this mod, you'll need to head to the mod settings and choose which genes you want to change. This is required for the mod to work!
- After installing new mods that add genes, you'll need to update the mod options to change newly added genes, if you want to change them. Alternatively, you can change all genes using respective checkmarks.
- While, after the version 3.0, mod no longer requires a full game restart, it is still recommended to restart the game after changing mod settings to avoid potential issues.
- The left column refers to metabolism efficiency, the middle to complexity, and the right to archite capsules.
- Making a gene cost no archite capsules makes it act like a regular gene, which can be added to genotype when creating one at the start of the game, as well as gene can be extracted by the Gene Extractor and allows creating genotypes with it without using archite capsules.

- The gene list can be sorted by clicking on the column headers. It can be sorted in ascending and descending order by gene names, metabolism, complexity and archite capsules price.
- At the top, there's a search bar that allows you to filter genes. The search is not case-sensitive.

You can use it to search for genes by their name, or by their description when using tags.
    - To search for genes by their name, you need to write a part of the gene name in the search bar. It'll search for genes that contain this part in any part of their name.
    - To search for genes by their description, you need to use "#" at the start of the search term.
    - Example: "#combat" will find genes with "combat" in their description.
    - Example: "strong #combat" will find genes with "strong" in their name and "combat" in their description.
There's also an info button, which, when hovered, shows a tooltip with info about the search system.
- The UI includes three toggles ('No Metabolism/Complexity/Archites Cost') in the 'Global Settings'. Each of these toggles allows you to make all genes cost no complexity, metabolism, or archite capsules. These options overwrite individual options for genes. All new genes added by new mods will be affected by these options without your influence.

- Buttons 'Toggle All Metabolism/Complexity/Archites' allow you to set the value of the gene attribute for all genes. It's different from the 'Global Settings' toggles, as they allow you to affect certain biostats for all your currently existing genes, not the new ones created by new mods.

- Buttons 'Toggle Metabolism/Complexity/Archites' in the 'Visible Genes Settings' allow you to set the effect biostats for all genes that are currently visible in the gene list. Aka - you only affect the genes, which are filtered by the searchbar at the top.

- Below, there's a Gene List. This list is scrollable and sortable; it's filtered by the text in the searchbar at the top. The list shows every gene that passes the filter, and genes have a tooltip with their ingame description.

- Above gene list, there are four sort buttons.

    - The first one is a "Gene Name" button. When pressed, it'll sort the genes in the list by their name.
    - The second one is a "Metabolism" button, with ingame metabolism icon. When pressed, it'll sort the genes in the list by their metabolism cost.
    - The third one is a "Complexity" button, with ingame complexity icon. When pressed, it'll sort the genes in the list by their complexity cost.
    - The fourth one is an "Archites" button, with ingame archite capsules requirement icon. When pressed, it'll sort the genes in the list by their archite capsules cost.

If you're still confused, pretty much every single UI element has tooltips, which appear when you hover your mouse over them. These tooltips will help you understand what each button, label and toggle does.

The mod works with all other mods that add new genes.
It has been tested with Alpha Genes.
Requirements:

For Modders:
The mod is entirely translated using keyed localization. Every string is now editable in the localization file, and I would be grateful if you would create a translation for your language, even though the mod is small :)

Updates:
  • 1.0.0 - Initial release
  • 1.0.1 - Added search tags.
        - This system allows you to search for genes using various tags.
        - As of now, there's only one tag - "#", which allows searching for genes using any text in their description.
Example: "#combat" will find genes with "combat" in their description.
Example: "strong #combat" will find genes with "strong" in their name and "combat" in their description.
        - Searchbar is still able to search for genes by their name, it's done by not using "#" at the start of the search term.
  • 1.0.2 - Added gene list sorting.
        - Now, you can sort the gene list by clicking on the column headers. It can be sorted in ascending and descending order by gene names, metabolism, complexity and archite capsules price.

Would you also be able to change the group that the gene falls under? Different mods use different group names and I'd love to be able to fix that on the fly

Can you set genes to be 100% passed on to offspring?
The idea I had was for a specific gene that always passes on to make sure that it survives as long as the colony is safe. Kinda of a way to prove a bloodline.

A great mod for those that don't know XML enough to do it that way or don't want to deal with it for whatever reason. Thank you!
