Prepared Spells: Core

Description
This a mod that implements shared functionality for my prepared spell mods. On its own it does nothing. Actual content is added via submods.

Concept of Prepared spells

The concept was inspired by the Wizard class from BG3. The main idea is for powerful spell casters to be able to select spells from multiple lores of magic, allowing you to pick and choose the exact spells you want for the given situation. This is done using a reworked spell browser which lets you assign spells to spell slots from a list of available lores.
Preparing a spell is equivalent to having the relevant lord skill with 2 points in it.

For legendary lords this involves a complete rework of their magic skill tree. I try to make these link to existing faction mechanics as much as possible. Some generic lords can also use the system but they are permanently restricted to just one lore of magic.

Additionally, some lords are able to prepare cataclysm spells as well using cataclysm slots. These are one time (per battle) army abilities that cost no winds of magic and can be freely swapped in campaign.

The mod supports 1 - 14 spell slots per lord depending on the relevant config. There is a battle script which adds up to 8 extra spell ability buttons in case you go over the vanilla 6 spell limit. These are placed above the existing spell list and below army abilities.
One spell slot is awarded for every 10 levels with level 1 also giving one. Some character skills will also increase this.

These certainly make spell casters more overpowered than what they are currently which is fine in my book since I can already clear entire armies with the vanilla lords. This just makes it slightly faster.

I am not very familiar with the lore & tabletop systems. I just go by what I read on wikis, the vibes I get from the lords via their voice lines and what I consider fun.

AI

Every lord is assigned a spell profile which specifies a preference list of spell types to pick.
Legendary lords will change their prepared spells after some number of turns.

AI characters currently do not prepare cataclysm spells.

Submods

I am not going to cover every faction and race.

  • High Elves. Lets spell caster lords prepare spells from the core lores available to the High Elves. Includes a skill tree rework for Teclis and an update to Alarielle.
  • Lizardmen. Updates slann mages and replaces Mazdamundi's magic skill tree with one themed around the strength of geomantic web.
  • Kairos. Themed arround Kairos learning lores of magic wielded by the enemies he defeats. Up to 30 lores of magic are unlockable.

I've got the same issue as Laserdream when used alongside Traits Manager. Which isn't unexpected, when using several mods that change the UI, but it would still be lovely if someone had a solution.

The mod otherwise works great for me, even when run alongside various other mods.

I can't seem to get the menu to close, after I assign my spells and hit the check mark button it just doesn't do anything.

Mildly incompatible with trait manager - choose trait button is obscured by the spell list.

This is what Magic should be on normal, damn, it makes teclis and kairos so much more fun to play, especially if you give Teclis his mods, teclis can fly, teclis teleportation and a few other high elf mods, you truly RP as a archmage

Any chance for Elspeth and Gelt? this is a masterpiece!

i love this mod series! any chance of a chaos dwarfs submod at some point, maybe with slots or extra lores unlocked by completing tower of zharr tiers? my soul pines for the day when i can have characters other than astragoth pull off my favourite spell combo of ash storm plus sword of rhuin all on their own, but for now i'll be happy to just have kairos do it XP

Is there a way to make the mod work for Chieftain Kroak? I feel that he is as important as Lord Mazdamundi, although now that I think about it it would still be something annoying to do since he is only a hero.
