Description
This mod aims to add the WW2-era M24 Chaffee light tank. The M24 was developed in the later stages of World War II to overcome the shortcomings of the M3 Stuart, which had been in service since 1941. Armed with a new 75mm gun, this was widely considered to be one of the best light tanks of the conflict. Since the Chaffee was used by several countries and in several conflicts and time periods, this mod also includes a whopping 40 custom skins, which are the following:

  • United States: The M24 served in the US Army from the Battle of the Bulge until the end of the Korean War, when it was replaced by the M41 Walker Bulldog. Included are 10 different liveries of specific units: 1 for the Battle of the Bulge, 2 for the 1945 invasion of Germany, 3 for the 1945 Italian campaign, and 4 for the Korean War.
  • United Kingdom: Britain was the other main user of the M24 Chaffee during World War II, receiving almost 400 examples. They kept using them for a short while after the war ended. Included are 4 different liveries of 4 units that saw combat in the North German Plain in 1945.
  • France: The M24 was the main armoured workhorse of the French Army in Indochina since 1950, replacing the Stuart. 10 of these tanks saw heavy combat at Dien Bien Phu, where they earned the nickname of "Bisons": Conti (command tank), Bazeille, Douaumont, Mulhouse (Bleu Division), Ettlingen, Posen, Smolensk (Rouge Division), Auerstaedt, Ratisbonne, Neumach (Vert Division). Included are 3 different liveries of M24s in Indochina prior to Dien Bien Phu and 4 from the decisive battle itself.
  • Austria: The M24 was exported to several countries, including Austria. This mod includes a generic Bundesheer livery.
  • Cambodia: Cambodia purchased 36 Chaffees.
  • Italy: 518 were bought through NATO. However, they never saw combat.
  • Japan: The M24 served in the JGSDF from 1952 until 1974, but they never saw combat.
  • Norway: 123 Chaffees entered service in the 1950s, last Chaffees were taken out of service in 1993. Included is one livery of the Stridsvogneskadron Sola, with their characteristic Norse mythology emblems.
  • Belgium: The Belgium Army had 51 M24 Chaffee light tanks and they were issued to their cavalry regiment. These Chaffees were a stopgap measure until the arrival of M41 Walker Bulldogs, which eventually arrived in 1958. The Chaffee was mostly used for reconnaissance and training missions, but some were actually stationed in Germany as a deterrent in the event of a Soviet invasion.
  • Netherlands: A total of 50 vehicles were delivered to the Dutch Army. They served with the 102nd and 103rd Reconnaissance Battalions at the Prins Bernhard barracks in Amersfoort from 1952 till 1961.
  • Canada: The Canadian Army’s inventory of M24 tanks began to arrive in late 1949 with 5 tanks being delivered in December of that year. In 1958 the tanks were declared obsolete and withdrawn from use. The Chaffees were pretty much only used for training purposes in Canada.
  • Philippines: Seven Chaffees assigned to the Recon Company of the 10th BCT, PEFTOK during the Korean War.
  • South Korea: 22 M24s were used for training by the 55th Tank Company of the Army in late 1952 for a temporary time. Later delivered to Taiwan.
  • Taiwan
  • Iraq: 78 Chaffees were purchased. Even though they were in service by the time of the Iran-Iraq War, they reportedly never saw combat.
  • Spain: 31 were purchased through NATO. This mod includes a livery for the 1st Cavalry Regiment Santiago, whose M24s saw combat during the Ifni War.
  • Turkey: 238 were bought through NATO. This mod includes a generic Turkish skin.
  • Greece: 170 were bought through NATO. These initially formed tank regiments, but they were later reorganised into independent armoured battalions. After 1962, the Greek Chaffees were gradually transferred to the Aegean islands, and many of them were turned into coastal defenses. In fact, Chaffee wrecks can still be found on the Aegean coasts. This mod includes two liveries, one from the 1960s and one from the 1970s (after the iconic Greek MERDC-like camo was adopted)
  • South Vietnam: The French sent several tanks to the Indochinese countries after the Indochina War, among other measures, to legitimise their rule in the region. South Vietnam received around 50 tanks in the 1950s. They were known as "voting machines" amongst the civilian population due to their common use in coups. The Chaffee was used in the ARVN until roughly 1965, when the M41 Walker Bulldog began to replace it, by advice of the USA.
  • Pakistan: 132 Chaffees were purchased. The last time the M24 Chaffee was used in combat was, in fact, in the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War.

This requires the Spearhead DLC, but you don't need to buy it. You should be able to use this mod with just the compatibility data patch.

KNOWN ISSUES/QUIRKS
- The shadow doesn't look great, but at least it works
- The M2 gunner floats when the main turret is turned
- The hatches don't have inner faces and the tank doesn't have an interior, but this is due to the model itself, can't help it
- The object-specific Editor options don't work, don't bother with them

Do you have plans to bring more tanks to the game? Would love to see the M4A3E8, M4A3E2/E2 76mm, and the Stuart would be awesome!

Yo, just a heads up, when I launched the game with the mod loaded after the update it triggered the "This mod isn't signed" warning from the startup parameters - the keys might not be right
