History
Tennessee Valley No. 610 is a S160 Class 2-8-0 Consolidation Type Steam Locomotive built by the Baldwin-Lima Hamilton Corporation in 1952 originally for the United States Army Railroad. 610 was one of the last steam locomotives built in the US, 610 was used to pull Soldier Trains during her time on the United States Army Railroad, and later Fort Eustis Military Railroad until 1972 when 610 was retired. Instead of scrapping the locomotive, they donated her to the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum, and she'll remain there until 1987 when its going to restored to operating condition, and the restoration will be completed in 1990 and began to pull excursions, around the same time, 610 was leased by the Norfolk Southern Railroad to replace Norfolk & Western Class A 2-6-6-4 No. 1218 to pull two mainline excursions before NS discontinue Steam Operations in 1994. 610 will continue to pull Excursions on the TVRM until 2010 when the locomotive was taken out of service of its major overhaul, today of 2024, the locomotive is still awaiting its major overhaul.
