2nd LW Inspired: Kottsyl Counterattack

Description
Inspired by the legacy 2LW Project Altrius Maps, and in this case, also the Polish charge at Krojanty. This is the fourth, and most detailed, map in my "Inspired" Series:

THIS MAP IS MEANT TO BE PLAYED WITH AND IS BALANCED FOR THE 2ND LEERSOG WAR WEAPONS/SKINS PACK. REPLACING QUADBIKES WITH ANY HORSE MOD IS HIGHLY ADVISED FOR THE INTENDED EXPERIENCE.

“Failing in their assault on the Karlitz Road and the completion of the city's encirclement, Hetland’s winter siege of Karlitz begins to stagnate as the war stretches on into its second year. However, despite Syrvanian supplies and reinforcements now flowing unimpeded into the beleaguered city, Hetland’s defensive positions in the area are still unbreachable: while their flanking forces battled to attrition, the main portion of the Second Home Army continued building extensive and sophisticated in-depth fortifications in anticipation of a renewed Syrvanian breakout attempt.

Facing the unappealing aspect of such a frontal assault, the Syrvanian leadership decides on a radical plan: sending three divisions to cut through the dense highland wilderness of the northwestern frontier, sweep across the lightly defended Radetziy Pass, push down through the Ilast Valley and emerge behind Home Army lines northeast of Karlitz. Initial successes allowed this force to penetrate into Northern Ilast in under two weeks before engaging an ad hoc defense comprising many of the Hettic reinforcements and reserve troops meant for the Karlitz siege.

With bitter fighting currently raging in the Valley, a small but well-armed and highly mobile Hettic force, including the remainder of the famed but hopelessly obsolete Hettic Yeoman Cavalry Regiment, has managed to out maneuver the main fighting and now advances on the highland village of Kottzyl, the weakest point in the Syrvanian supply line. Should this force capture and hold the settlement, the Syrvanian relief force will be cut off from critical fuel and ammunition supplies, and may very well fail to reach its objective. Though it will prove to be only a small battle, the repercussions of this fight cannot be understated: the fate of the 65,000 Syrvanians at Karlitz hangs in the balance. Success or failure here may very well spell success or failure in this war.”

THE MAP:

It’s a cavalry map, so it’s highly advised to use a horse mod replacer for quadbikes! If not, feel free to remove the quadbikes in the vehicle tab!

Best with 150 - 200 units, either balanced or with RAVEN advantage. 10 sec respawn recommended.

Hetland (Raven) medium-sized attack map. Open forests, roadside dikes and ditches and thick hedgerows interspersed with wide, rolling rocky fields provide cover for attackers while defending forces occupy entrenched positions with overlapping fields of fire. Foggy, overcast conditions make long range combat harder, but not impossible. Expect flanking attacks at most positions.

As attackers, Hetland (Raven) has access to 4 armored cars, 2 tanks and 30 horses.

As defenders, Syrvania (Eagle) has access to entrenched positions near the ruins of an old castle, as well as prepared positions and checkpoints scattered throughout the area, including the village of Kottzyl. While lacking vehicles on this map, they do have a number of MG and anti-tank positions, some well hidden.

All aircraft have been grounded due to inclement weather.

@Urocyon

An excellent job nonetheless, this looks almost exactly like it came out of the Unity engine and I think encapsulates Sofa's style for the Leersog War very well. :steamthumbsup: I will be very happy to play this over the weekend!

The hardest part of the map was the lighting, for the whole time I was working on it I couldn't quite decide how dark to make it. I actually prefer the darker version than this one, but unfortunately the terrain colors were too muted to be easily detectable. Such are the limitations of the editor...

Sir, this was made with the in-game editor?! Fantastic work! The use of lighting and the fog really sell this map, it must've been painful to make the landscape too.

I use OspreyGunner's "Horse" Mod. It's slightly buggy, but I think all RF horse mods are. It's also the most immersive as far as RF aesthetics go.
