West Slavs: Sclavinia's Heritage — Orthodox update

Description

From the creator of "Rebirth of the Bastard" to HoI4...
Have you ever heard of Sclavinia? The Fourth Daughter of the Holy Roman Empire. No? Not surprising...

The mod focuses on the year 867 — more precisely, on rework the Western Slavic (Polish, Pomeranian, Polabian) tribes, as well as the entire Western Slavic region itself (with an emphasis on the Lechites) — particularly through the reorganization of empires in the region, which, while bad before, became even worse after an update a few years ago; and by adding minor historical-flavour events. You can also play the mod in 1066, but the content there is somewhat limited.

The mod gives the player several game goals:
  • For the Western Slavs, the goal is to unite their lands under the banner of Sclavinia (or the Orthodox Sklabonia) to save their people from the oppression of neighboring states.
  • For pre-feudal Poles, the goal is to establish their own kingdom (with various coats of arms and names) and to make a decision about the religious (Christian?) future of the state.
  • For the Kings of Poland, the goal is to reform the realm and resolve conflicts with neighboring Ruthenians, Lithuanians, or Pomeranians... naturally through conquest.
Will you make it?

List of changes and additions:
  • Reorganization of part of the Lechitic tribes (territorial changes, new rulers, etc.) for the years 867 and 1066.
  • Lechitic tribes have new dynasty and house coats of arms, as well as pre-feudal names that transform into more noble forms upon feudalization.
  • Cultural naming conventions for titles (tiers) for Western Slavs.
  • Names for hybrid cultures and newly created ones based on Polish culture.
  • New decisions after the formation of the Kingdom of Poland regarding the establishment of historical voivodeships and provinces of the First Republic of Poland.
  • Historical and narrative events triggered after major gameplay milestones (formation of the Kingdom of Poland, running mod-specific decisions, etc.).
  • Polish names for titles and settlements across Eastern Slavia.
  • Reworked cultural traditions for Lechitic cultures.
  • New 867 start date bookmark.
  • A small narrative thread in 867 for choosing Orthodoxy after forming the Kingdom of Poland (including acquiring the Płock Diadem as an actual crown).
  • Title reorganization:
  • The Cherven Grods are de jure part of Poland. In 867, they also include Lublin and Stężyca and are named Lęda, reflecting the Lendians.
  • Creation of the Kingdom of Polabia from German and Pomeranian territories. The western border is based on the Limes Sorbicae and Saxoniae. The duchies within this kingdom were adjusted accordingly. The kingdom appears in both 867 and 1066 (under game rules, the kingdom must be fully controlled to become de jure part of the HRE — and Polabia was not).
  • Creation of the Empire of Lechia, composed of Poland, Pomerania, and Polabia.
  • Creation of the Kingdoms of Prussia and Latvia from Lithuanian territories. These three kingdoms form the Empire of Baltia.
  • Creation of the Kingdom of Transdanubia from Hungarian territories in 867. Adjustments to duchies within this kingdom.
  • Creation of the Duchy of Hont from Nitra territories. In 867, part of Great Moravia; in 1066, part of Hungary. Adjustments to these two duchies.
  • Creation of the Empire of Samonia, composed of Great Moravia, Transdanubia, and Bohemia (exists only in 867).
  • Ability to form the Empire of Sclavinia, which in 867 consists of the above-mentioned kingdoms plus Carinthia (created secondarily after uniting the Western Slavs); while in 1066 it consists of the Lechitic kingdoms, Bohemia, and Nitra (also created afterwards). Depending on which nation unites the Western Slavs, Sklavinia's map color, coat of arms, and capital city will change.
  • Uniting the Western Slavs renames Slavia to Omnisclavinia (All-Slavdom; essentially, Slavia should have been named Sclavinia anyway).
  • Moving the Kingdoms of Bjarmaland and Vladimir under the Empire of Volga-Ural for both 867 and 1066, so Slavia and Russia are no longer simultaneously on the map.
  • In 867, Lubusz is de jure part of Polabia and Chełmno is de jure part of Poland.
  • Probably more, but that's all I remembered.

Compatibility
The mod won't be compatible with every mod, as it partially edits existing files (history of Polish, Pomeranian, and Polabian characters, title histories of Poland and Galicia-Volhynia, decisions for uniting Slavs, etc.). However, I tried to code it as non-invasively as possible.

Plans:
  • A historical-flavour thread about the encounter between the Poles and Hungarians.
  • More coats of arms for eastern counties that can become de jure part of the Kingdom of Poland.
  • The same kingdom formation mechanic for Pomerania and Polabia as currently exists for Poland (establishment of a capital and kingdom renaming).
  • A submod that shifts baronies to better match historical voivodeship borders.
  • Bookmark for 1066.
  • Cultural tradition reworks for Czechs, Slovaks, and Carantanians.
  • Roman Catholic Update: possibility to form Sclavinia as a province within the HRE.
  • Pagan Update: addition of a pre-Christian background for Western Slavs (e.g. proto-Lechitic culture) and greater emphasis on the decision to unite all Slavs along with reclaiming "indigenous" lands.
  • Polabian and Polish names for all Polabian de jure titles (not all are localized by default), likewise for Pomerania.

The works on the update ARE ongoing. I hope it will be dropped in two weeks. Now I work directly on the Roman Catholic content (I started with minor additional stuff), on the fictional too — so will spend less time on research and writing it down properly; and more on thinking on coding new stuff... It's totally not like I spent one day on trying to code in just one artifact

Scale down interface in setting temporarily, the button should pop back. I will fix that in the next update by beginning of May

the voivodship button is unclickable for some reason, it appears off of the interface for the decision.

If you want to talk about Polabians etc., it would be better if you hit me on Discord. My tag there is premislia (the same pfp + Glagolitic nickname)

> The Oborite Confederation was way too important historically for the region to propose anything wihtout seeing implementation of the machanics in-game.
Sounds like nice idea. It would be actually useful to help them stand against Germans.
> it would be cool to see a start date were Poland holds their historical vassal Duchy of Kopanice
Could add it in 1066, the the problem of it is, afaik, there's no any start date of the duchy — it's only known it was around in 12th, and that's all.

> I'd say the cultures of Redaria and like half of Cercepania may be closer to Pomeranian culture than Polabian. The Redarian culture survived quite long directly due to their cultural ties to Pomeranians
...here we're going on quicksand really, with the borderland relations like that. Splitting Pomeranians and Polabians on Oder river, for me, is the best solution — not to mention that there are sources (most of?) that actually do split them like that.

> both Sorbia and Bohemia being way too small as kingdoms to mechanically secure their existance
Well, for Bohemia, it sort of makes sense really — not without the reason Great Moravia appeared and so xD But this aside, I can't really make it all super balanced to give every Slav equal start etc. For Lechites there will be Poles, for Czechoslovaks there will be Moravians — and that's all really. Not to mention if I tried to make it more historical with Polabians split between northern and southern, making is all more fragmentated — and it's all in the meantime, when Christianity is split in the schism before 1054 due to gameplay reasons xD While I try do my best to do historical accuracy (which is difficult due to the topic itself...), I, fortunately or not, put more accent on the gameplay, so in simplifications, so...

> For me it seems that this is the similar case as with historical Polans where they really weren't predestined to win and name whole geographic region after them
Name of the region is one thing, the culture of the tribes (being from one more or less consistent culture group) is the other.
> Czechoslovakians and Serboluzyczans split off from each other way earlier than the timeline of the game according to our best info.
Didn't heard of it really. Not like I'm doubting you, to be clear, just from what I heard, the split was more like pararell among all the Lechites, so like Serbo-Lusatians are not from Czechoslovaks, but are just Western Slavs and that's all.

> For me tho the titles are more of a land thing, not culture thing
Imo that could work in the further centuries, but in the 9th the "land thing" is actually just getting formed lol — and the mod aims at it specifically.
> Pomerania is way too small and even smaller than historic Duchy of Pomerania
Said duchy isn't from 12th cent? Also, I do agree it's small, I even played once with me as Poland, my friend as Pomerania... And I had to help him all the time, because of how small he was. Though, I would say, that's how it is really
> Baltic Kingdoms, tho I probably would merge them into singular kingdom too
the reason they are split is to make Baltics' empire being made of more than just one kingdom.
> and split Russia differently
I'm not touching anything except West Slavdom

Tho, as an afterthought, while we are pretty-certain Rana was Polabian, I'd say the cultures of Redaria and like half of Cercepania may be closer to Pomeranian culture than Polabian. The Redarian culture survived quite long directly due to their cultural ties to Pomeranians.

Sorry for the spam.
