Did you know back in the sixties there were attempts to create guns that could fire rockets? Yeah! Those were the GyroJets, nowadays they aren’t produced anymore and are pretty much collection items, but, what if we add some to Starbound? Well say no more! As that what I’ve been working on!

This mod introduces 14 GyroJet assault rifles and handguns, 9 and 5 of them respectively. These have zero spread and are slightly stronger than a regular gun but at the cost of a higher energy consume; handguns are slightly stronger than rifles but also at the cost of having a slower rate of fire. Since a lot of them are tiered, you’ll find they eventually get some upgrades, like faster and explosive ammo, being able to work underwater, having unique projectiles and weapon abilities, etc.

10 of these weapons can be crafted at the anvil. 3 of them are only found on Space Anomalies and 1 can be purchased at the Treasured Trophies shop in the Outpost.

I remember when I first heard about Gyrojets. I was drawing my own sci fi guns and was like "casings are cringe, and caseless ammo has issues, so what if the propellant was self-contained like an accelerating rocket to maintain velocity?" Turns out, I was like 5~6 decades late so I looked into everything Gyrojet related that I can find.

The guns themselves never really interested me, but the projectiles fascinated me and I've been wanting to see it reborn ever since, even if it means a single round costs as much as a .50 BMG round.

I eventually gone with a caseless + Gyrojet hybrid round for my sci fi drawings, the idea being to bypass the slow initial velocity by giving it caseless propellant in the back of the round, but then I learned that Bolters in 40k were already Gyrojets with a conventional charge for the initial firing... Only that it was cased instead of caseless and their reasoning for having that initial charge was some weird thing to do with warping the barrel.
