The Apothecary

Description
"There are fires that burn. There are fires that destroy. There are fires that illuminate. But there's one nature of fire that I seek, and that's the fire that transforms."

Begin as a humble Pharmacist. Create medicines and distribute prescriptions, until one day, a man hurriedly gives you a package. The content of that package will change your life: you will have a path to immortality - and a Society of near-Long hunting you.

Put your skills of working with mortar and pestle and other machines of creation to use asd you pursue the philosopher's stone and ultimate purity of the soul. Craft and purify potions that could cause your mind to gleam with light, give you strange visions, make you rebirthed, or cause you to be possessed with the ferocity of the Lionsmith. But beware - a there are those that think your ways blasphemous. The Society of the Noble Endeavour will attempt to stop you at every turn. They believe that only Forge-long of the Forge of Days are worthy, and that your path under the Madrugad isn't worthy of existing.

You will also imbibe potions of visions, and send your Followers to set up an Outpost to collect ingredients of power. Your cultists will have to withstand everything out there, from otherworldly psychological torment to direct assault by the Society or rival occultists - but it will give you the necessary resources for your magnum opus, the Philosopher's Stone.

Things I didn't like? Herb expeditions. They are really well developed, don't get me wrong. But they take sooo looong. It takes an hour or two for me to get enough herbs to upgrade concoctions to potions. So even if you know what you are doing, don't drink any of your potions so that you have enough for the elixer, it would take about 14h to get all the herbs. I decided to cheat the remaining herbs at the end. I propose allowing multiple herb expeditions.

I played the mod, so I think I should give my own opinion.
TLDR; It's good, but can be too grindy.

So first things I liked. Fighting the society was an interesting and fresh experience. I liked how they would send you letters before doing anything. You managed to balance it quite well. I appreciate the spintrea that the player gets at the beginning, so that they have something to give when society first extorts them.

I liked figuring out how to upgrade potions. One advice - give a hint that there is not enough potion to upgrade the potion, I was really confused in that case and thought the game had a bug.

In any case, I was kinda sad because I've anticipated playing this mod for a long time, especially since I loved the Exorcist. Still, good luck in your future endeavours :P I hope I helped you through my criticism hehe kinda jealous of you since the mod I'm creating just spoon-feeds my players lol. But you've reinvigorated my resolve to continue it! Well, only 30% of it lol.

The enemy was kinda...pointless? I didn't see any meaningful purpose for them that I sometimes forget they existed in the first place. Only when they'd decide to cause some shit in the city would I be reminded they were still there. I thought our pharmacy would hold some purpose for the endgame, but turns out it doesn't (afaik?). Back to the ascension process, only when I looked at the code did I finally realize how drawn-out it all was. Without going into spoilers, I just have to say...really? All of that? Hahaha and I thought Priest DLC was tedious. I don't really expect to have a lot of story and lore planted in semi-important recipes and elements since I know writing them is really taxing, but it could've improved the lengthy acquisition of everything. It just felt like going in a 9 to 5 without any clue as to why my life has led me to this. And also, what's up with the Rubedo phase? Is that missing or what?

Brewing the potions, and subsequently, the whole ascension process was too tedious imho. There are parts in vanilla and modded CS that will make you go "fuck this" due to its obnoxious difficulty that you can still accept because you understand it's "difficulty done right," and unfortunately, this isn't it. It felt like one long drawn-out nightmare without any definite end; it became so painful that I just used the console for the first time to win. I really wanted to love it since it revolved around alchemy and one of my top 5 favorite Hours, but I really didn't wanna lose my sanity while withholding myself from playing other mods at the same time.

I didn't really wanna comment about this mod, but as I neared midgame, I felt like I needed to tell about its flaws. And by flaws, I mean a lot. One of the most observable flaws I've encountered was some of the warm-ups' absurd length; this thing wasn't limited to this mod alone, but also in the Poet mod. Of course, I'm talking about the Outposts, while in regards to the latter mod, I think it's about the poet's job iirc. There's a reason why there are only a handful of warm-ups in vanilla CS that are longer than 60 secs, and activities/whole recipes that would last for 6-8 (?) mins in-game at most, and it's because they would really drag out on the player's perspective, especially if the rewards aren't all that satisfying—much less rewarding. The Outposts' heavy reliance on RNG for its rewards is quite audacious on the modder's part lol.

never mind, it was a conflict with another mod. the mod is great though!

I don't know if it's something to do with my game, but i can't do anything with the reagents, or craft any potions. Where should this be possible?

An interesting mod, it makes me feel like I felt when playing CS for the first time (not having any idea of what I'm doing). I have a question but is about something that I don't know if it's a bug or a feature: after defeating *the* duellist the Society stopped bothering me but still all the letters -both answered and unanswered- remained on the deck, is that supposed to happen?

Also, I don't know if it was for the RNG but they spammed a lot of letters, there were like eleven total letter remaining after the duel.
