Description
Immersive Lore is a mod that breathes life into the post-apocalyptic world. Immerse yourself in the raw emotions and untold stories of survivors and victims who have left behind fragments of their existence. Scattered throughout the world, these weathered papers hold precious thoughts, heartfelt letters, and intimate reflections from the early days of the apocalypse.
NOTE: The vegetation in the preview images are from the 10 years later mod.

Q&A
  • How does this mod work?
    Immersive Lore introduces a new item, "Tattered Paper," to the game. These weathered remnants serve as vessels for the poignant thoughts and messages of those affected by the apocalypse. As you explore the world, you'll stumble upon these items, granting you the opportunity to delve into the narratives they hold. Unfolding the stories within, you'll gain insight into the lives of survivors and victims, immersing yourself in their experiences during the apocalypse

  • Where can I find the item?
    This item can be discovered in a variety of locations scattered throughout the game world, such as offices, kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, and more. Each spawn location holds the potential for a unique story, ensuring that you encounter a diverse range of narratives as you explore.

  • How many stories are there?
    At the time this mod was last updated (6th of May, 2025), there are a total of 188 stories

  • Is it possible to come across the same story twice?
    Technically speaking, yes. The mod employs a prioritization system that aims to present you with new and unseen stories whenever possible. However, there are still rare cases where you'd see a repeat story, such as having already read all stories the mod has to offer.

  • How do I blacklist certain stories from spawning?
    Each story has a unique ID. To find the ID of the story you want to block, head to mod directory/media/lua/shared/Translate/EN/UI_EN.txt. Press Ctrl + f and search for the story you want to blacklist. The ID of the story will be in the translation name. For example, UI_ImmersiveLore_Story_1_Title points to story with id 1. Compile a list of ids you want to block separated by semi-colons, like 1;14;16;32;94, then go to sandbox options of the mod and paste it into the "Blacklisted Stories" field.

Compatibility
  • Other Mods - No known incompatibilities with other mods currently.
  • Game Version - Tested and works on 41.78.16+. Not tested on earlier versions.
  • Multiplayer - Functional in multiplayer.
  • Pre-existing saves - Can be added to your pre-existing save, although the item most likely won't show up in areas you've already looted.

Known Bugs/Issues
None at the moment. If you come across any, feel free to report them so they can be fixed as soon as possible

Alrighty, I updated all my submissions to add locations to those that I felt needed them. Curious about the Doe Valley coordinates, though - 300x300 seems like a very small area, and I figured Doe Valley encompassed a fairly large swath of the western map given the landmarks named after it. Plus, the real-world town of Doe Valley is roughly where Riverside is, though it's better represented in-game by the West Maple Country Club. If the LIF coordinates are set in stone, I'll probably need to change a few of my submissions to compensate, but that's no issue.

It's no worries at all, I personally have no issues with it. I just wanted to avoid stories which may at the slightest make other people feel uncomfortable, and stories that don't contribute to the overall mod's goal of feeling people feel more immersed in PZ's world

Older stories didn't have their locations updated. They're treated as "global" stories which may spawn anywhere. If you'd like, you can supply locations for such stories.

Aw, sorry that a few of my goofier submissions didn't make the cut, but I fully understand. They were intended to just be a bit of levity, and, yes, a couple references outside the Zomboid box, hah. And, gosh, I didn't intend for "Malformed Musical Memory" to come off as racist in itself - it's a dumb reference to an actual less-than-pleasant old song, "Chow Mein" by The Gaylords. Sorry to parrot it!

Anyway, thanks for the update! It's nice to finally have that direct control over where scraps spawn. Did you go back through the older submissions to determine if any of those needed location specifications? I can supply such details for my submissions, if needed.

Hello! Yes, it'll be required in B41 as well. The update makes it possible to customize notes spawning locations, making it possible to tailor notes to specific towns, etc

o also since i see the description still says untested, just wanna say it def works (in its current state) in mp, had it on our server for a while now
