R.V. Calypso

Description
originally a wooden hulled mine sweeper for the royal navy, the R.V. Calypso found a new life when Jaque Cousteau needed a larger vessel to conduct oceanic research. This vessel in the world of Stromworks is a 1:1 ratio to its real world counter part but do to scaling of components in stormworks it is not a 100% replica of the real vessel. It does however contain many of the really cool features of the original Calypso!

A fuel capacity of almost just over 99,000 Litres allows this vessel to travel a staggering estimated 290Km!

a top speed of 15 Knots (with gear lockout turned off)

bow thrusters to help with tighter areas

a floating helicopter

deploy-able boat

deploy-able submersible

hydraulic pumps for cranes and winches (pump must be on for winches and cranes to work)

air compressor to recharge diving equipment (air compressor must be on for diving equipment to recharge)

GPS auto guidance system

2 auxiliary generators to recharge the main battery.

automatic engine and transmission control

tons of equipment and decorations

a diving hatch in the galley, this would have originally been used to either covertly deploy divers, or make it safer to deploy divers in rougher sea states.

the famous false bow that was added the the Calypso for underwater observation

this boat is meant to behave more like the real vessel, so it is not fast and it does not turn super tight, but it can travel a very long distance economically and this vessel is more or less designed for exploration. Money can be made with the vessel by exploring many of stormworks random islands and underwater features collecting loot crates.

this project was done as a labor of love and to help spread awareness of Jaque Cousteau and his famouse vessel the R.V. Calypso. The absolutely invaluable information he collected and shared with the world. And some of the most stunning pictures and videos from ocean we have ever had the pleasure of seeing!

Starting instructions: head the to aft storage utility room on the lowest deck, turn on all breakers, the exterior lighting, nav lights and heaters are above the breakers. head to the helm, the key switch on the left side of the helm with start the engines.

To operate Cranes and winches: head to the very rear of the vessel and turn on the hydraulic pump, there is a mute switch if you do not want to listen to the noise

To recharge diving equipment the air compressor must be turned on and above 90PSI, the air compressor does consume a fair bit of power so it is advisable to start at least one generator

I even did a few small tests is on my side I even added rudders to try to help it turn more easily from the front it didn't change anything the boat tilts a lot to the side

The rudder system is a bit a weak to make it seem a bit more realistic, I find that with the GPS guidance enabled it does do a bit better, sometimes it just best to sleep and let the storm pass! I may work on adding something to the vessel to help with steering during stronger wind states

impossible to stay on course when there is a big storm with a lot of wind :(
