Edge of Descension - Stuncaster 2.0

Description

Descend into madness, crave violence and avenge yourself from your past mistakes.

"Very well. Come forth."

Stuncaster returns! With new abilities and Stunskip overhauled into a much more useful and powerful feature.

Reign supreme by psychically freezing the perceptions of all but yourself, unlocking oppurtunities in the midst of the chaos, as only you can move and act. This new version also comes with extra abilities that will help improve your combat capabilities and prowess.

Disclaimer: For those who still have the older version of stuncaster, use dev mode to reset your psycasts and gain the new abilities/mechanics from the psycast path.

This is a big update, mostly revolves around balancing. Now, new stuncasters will find it quite hard to utilise their abilities properly, but with time and gradual mental upgrades, they can be devastating in the battlefield. I suggest that stuncasters should utilise their upgrade points to only upgrading their psychic sensitivity and unlocking their full potential.

This is mid-save compatible since it just adds another psycast tree.

Full changelog:

- Removed dreaded scream and combined the two perception based hediff abilities into one to make up for two more new abilities.
- Added evasion, a hediff ability that enhances the caster's awareness, effectively avoiding projectiles and dodging melee attacks with ease. This ability uses the new heat over time mechanic, so the caster can use it for as long as they can hold it.
- Added air javelin, an ability similar to air thrust, except with more range (affected by psychic sensitivity). Strong against walls and buildings.
- Most abilities will be affected by psychic sensitivity, either increasing their damage output, range or duration.
- Upgraded the deception ability with new effects, and making the caster's first melee attack damage multiplied tenfold. Attacking breaks the illusion.
- Deception is now renamed to Elusion.
- Deception now uses heat over time mechanic, replacing the limited 10 seconds duration so the caster can be invisible for as long as they can hold it.
- Changed most stunskip-based names to different ones since "skip" has a different existing meaning in the RimWorld universe.
- The global cooldown of stunskip-based abilities has been removed. They now use conventional cooldowns as before.
- Changed the duration of Greater Restrain from 10 seconds to 12 seconds.
- Changed the psycast path of abilities with a new arrangement, with the new combined enhanced perception as the first unlockable and Greater Restrain being the final unlockable ability.
- You can now cast Restrain and Stunskip (the teleport) instantly.
- Removed Stunskip and Stunstrike's visuals to look as if the caster teleported or "flash step".
- Changed the abilities sound effects, icon colors and symbols for more consistency.
- Casting Restrain for the the first time now grants the caster the "stuncaster" hediff, a permanent hediff that improves their perceptivity over time, increasing the intensity of the buffs gradually.
- Stuncasters with the "stuncaster" hediff will now move in Restrain, including other Stuncasters' Restrain.
- Stuncasters will now have their stunskip-based abilities locked during Restrain.
- Restrain will now give the caster a lot of heat over time while it's active.
- Restrain can now be cancelled at any point while it's active.
- Changed the cost of both Restrains to be cheaper in exchange of the difficulty that the new heat over time mechanic brings

More stuffs will come in the future, when I have free time to make them, that is. So stay tuned!

It will be compatible with other mods, as it will only add psycasts.

Bugs will be present, but I've cleared most that I could find. I may not do the same in the future unfortunately.

@Author, would you consider adding an option to your mod to disallow shrinking of the Psycast or, have it respect the non-shrinking of VPE? Thanks in advance for the amazing mod. :)

Your animations and this mod have inspired the core of my newest run. Absolutely fantastic.

@TheReallyRealPlayer the incompatibility between shinking gizmos and scrollable gizmos is actually well-known, and the normal way to resolve it is to disable gizmo shrinking altogether. Point is, this mod's gizmos keep trying to shrink regardless of VPE settings.

I second whan @SurvivingPawn said. Can you make your gizmos respect VPE's shrinking toggle?
TheReallyRealPlayer Aug 9, 2024 @ 7:48pm
@SurvivingPawn, that can't be the case. I had the same problem, too, for a few days, now, but I just heard about this mod, now, and haven't downloaded it, previously, which rules this out. Likely, it is some obscure incompatability between the smaller buttons and scrollable gizmos, that you slid away from, despite mentioning, which I have, as well.

Cool mod. If anyone using "Scollable gizmos" and turned of VPE's button shrinking and getting weird refreshing buttons / scrooll not wortking when selecting multiple drafted pawns. This mod is probably forcing VPE buttons to shrink so. Not game braking but annoying bug. When selected multiple drafted pawn unselect pawn with stuncaster ability to scroll with "Scrollable Gizmos"

Enhanced Perception doesn't seem to work with unarmed attacks / prosthetics. I am not sure if this is an oversight or you just didn't consider it necessary.
