Description
Shinkansen 0 Series Control Car

Lore

The 0 series trains were the first generation Shinkansen trainsets built to run on Japan's Tōkaidō Shinkansen high-speed line which opened in 1964. The trains were powered by overhead catenary lines with all axles of all cars powered by 248 hp traction motors, giving a 220 km/h (137 mph) operation top speed. Production of 0 series units continued from 1963 until 1986. Shinkansen sets are generally retired after fifteen to twenty years. The final remaining 0 series sets were six-car sets used on JR-West Kodama services on the San'yō Shinkansen between Shin-Ōsaka and Hakata, and on the Hakata-Minami Line until their retirement on 30 November 2008 after 44 years of service. A large number of former 0 series vehicles are preserved or stored in museums and various other locations around Japan. -Wikipedia

This model represents a Shinkansen control car with a capacity of 78 passengers. It has a cab and controls for operating the train, and one should be placed at each end of the trainset. This version has a pantograph for supplying electric current to the traction motors.

I recommend using my Catenary Environment addon for the best experience

Big thanks to Gerunimo, who developed the ATC system, upgraded the interiors of all of the cars, and redid the systems and logic to be much closer to the real life thing.

What is ATC?
ATC, or Automatic Train Control, is a safety system installed on some railways involving speed control and cab signalling. The system can apply emergency brakes if a train exceeds the speed limit, or if the driver fails to acknowledge an upcoming signal or other stimulus. The Shinkansen Bullet Train uses ATC, in part because the trains move too fast for the drivers read actual signals. This ATC system, kindly implemented by Gerunimo, measures different parameters including train speed and acceleration, and establishes a set speed limit. If this speed is exceeded, the emergency brakes are applied, preventing an accident or derailment from happening.

Setup and ATC Operation
1). In the trailing control car (the one at the back of the train) head into the cab and open the nosecone door
2). Turn off the ATC Master Cut-Out and close the ATC Cut-Out valve
3). Move to the leading control car. In the nosecone, ensure the ATC Master Cut-Out is on and the ATC Cut-Out valve is open
4). Turn on the Battery Isolation, High Voltage Cut-In and Door Control switches
5). Turn on the Operation Master Key and ATC Cut-In switches. The ATC SYSTEM ACTIVE light should be blinking.
6). Press the "Raise Pantographs" button
7). In the motorman's seat, apply the air brakes (not an emergency application). The bell will ding and the ATC PENALTY light should come on.
8). Press the ATC Acknowledge hotkey (3). The system with then run through each speed regime and display that on the Speedometer with the Red Needle. Every time the "ATC Pentaly" light comes on and the bell dings, press the ATC Acknowledge hotkey to move to the next speed regime.
9). Once the ATC system completes its speed regime test (at 260 km/h) it will conduct the High Speed Test after you press the ATC Acknowledge hotkey. The speed indication needle (white needle) will automatically move from 0 to 260 km/h, at which point the ATC Penalty Light will come on, the the bell will continuously ding, and the train will automatically go to an Emergency Brake Application. To "recover" from this Emergency Application Move the Brake handle to Emergency and and press the ATC Acknowledge hotkey.
10). The Speed Indication will return to '0', and the ATC Track Speed Needle (red line) will display track speed (it defaults to 30 km/h initially) and the ATC Cut-In Light should now be continuously illuminated blue. ATC is now ready and you may move the train.

-If the Brake Cylinder displays 500kPa even though brakes are released, give the train an emergency brake application and then pull the brake handle to release. The brakes should release and the train will move.

-If you wish to operate with the ATC system disabled, skip steps 6-9. Turn off the ATC Cut-In switch, and in the nosecone of the leading cab turn off the ATC Master Cut-Out and close the ATC Cut-Out valve. ATC is now disabled and you have full control of the train.

-Pressing the "Request Track Change" button simulates Shinkansen Control setting the track switches before you. It can take a couple seconds, and you will hear a buzzer when the signal goes through.

Notes about the ATC System
-Unlike a real ATC system that receives signal information from the rail, this one is reacting to terrain so it (in most cases) will stop an accident from happening. It's not foolproof though, and the terrain is varied enough that it might not react quickly enough to prevent accidents. However, in most cases it should work.
- You cannot move backwards with the system cut-in over 3 km/h as the train detects itself on the rail. If you need to move into a shed or reverse use the ATC Partial Cut-Out. This will allow you to move closer to objects or reverse. However, it will limit you to 30 km/h in either direction.

What to do in a High Speed Warning situation
-If ATC is active and a speed restriction is broken, the High Speed Penalty light will come on, including the bell
-You have 3 seconds to acknowledge the Penalty with the ATC Acknowledge hotkey (3). This will also silence the bell (but the Penalty light will remain on). If not the emergency brake will activate.
-If you acknowledge the penalty you have time to get your speed down under/to the limit. Under 70 km/h the time is the speed/10 then doubled, I.e. at 70 km/h you have 14 seconds. Over 70 km/h its the speed/10 I.e. 160 km/h = 16 seconds. If you get the speed down in time the the Penalty light will extinguish and you can continue. If you don't get the speed down, the train will go into emergency.
-In order to recover from the emergency, the process is the same as the high speed test. Apply the Emergency Brake fully. Once the train has stopped press the ATC Acknowledge hotkey, release the brakes, and throttle up (when the brake handle is moved to Emergency the throttle will automatically come back to idle).

Make sure to turn off vehicle damage! The cars can clip into the ground, especially at high speeds!

I'll keep it in mind but right now I'm not planning any high speed trains

Could you make the N700 series trains?

People seem to be really rude for zero to no reason in these comments, huh. Anyway, this train is one of the greatest, if not the best train i've ever used in stormworks. Its realistic, works great, and even though it causes some form of physics slowness, its worth it. It is a bit annoying when the speed limit drops from 110 to 30, etc. but its incredibly fun to use.

There are instructions for disabling ATC as well if you are having issues

it annoys me a lot with the atc thing, it doesn't work for me. it just dings and applies the brakes immediately when I start driving and I tried following your instructions but it still doesn't work.
