Ming Dynasty Militarized [Cathay Historical Reskin] - 震旦兵模历史化

Description
(简体中文版) / (繁体中文版)
A reskin mod for some of the units of Grand Cathay to match closer to their historical counterparts (namely the Song- and Ming Dynasty which Grand Cathay takes after), with some fantasy flair kept in.

Unit reskin only
Lords and Heroes reskin only

Changes include:

Units

Lord Magistrate
Changed from vaguely Taiping Heavenly Kingdom-esque design to resemble the scholar-officials of the Ming Dynasty. Vanilla designs, while well-made, personally seemed a bit out-of-place. Lord Magistrates now wear their late medieval/renaissance-era counterpart's characteristic Yuanlingpao-robes and Wushamao-hat, with a decorated belt, jade pendant and "yapai" (牙牌)-plaque to signify their rank and position. Brigandine is so they look somewhat protected and fit for military leadership, based on the Ming-era "Departure Herald"-painting
Note: There is variety with heads, but I didn't bother screencapping them all.

Jade Warriors
The infantry now wear kettle-hats used by military of the Ming Dynasty to differentiate from the cavalry. The cavalry will still keep their vanilla helmets and neck-guard, as it is what heavy cavalry in the Jin- and Tang Dynasties actually wore.

Peasant Conscripts
Changed appearance to resemble the soldiers as seen on the Ming-era "Wokou Tujuan"-painting, and renamed to "Garrison Guards". Because technically in Chinese history, peasant conscripts (that is drafted non-professional militia from non-military backgrounds) weren't particularly common, as the system of recruitment always changed from dynasty to dynasty.
Thus they are changed to the more period-appropriate "Weisuo"(卫所) or "Guard battalions", which used hereditary soldiery from assigned military households and families (called fubing-system) given lands to cultivate and garrison, and in return would serve as soldiers during war. A kind of semi-self-reliant military social class.

Iron Hail Gunners
Gunners now wear red Yongzi(勇字)-kettle helmets, to complete their look as based on Ming-era Chinese military paintings like Departure Herald and Return Clearing.

Crane Gunners
Crane Gunners have helmets based on the the Shenjiying[commons.wikimedia.org], the real-life firearms division of the Ming Dynasty. The Crane Gunners also have shield patterns used during the Ming Dynasty[greatmingmilitary.blogspot.com]

Alchemists
Alchemists now wear Chunyangjin(纯阳巾)- and Hunyuanjin(混元巾)-hats, which are headgear used by real Taoist priests.

Shugengan
Some Shugengan's wear the Pibian-hat (皮弁) used by nobility, to emphasize their status as having royal Dragon blood. Their names are changed to "Xiuyanqing", which is their Chinese localized name.

Miao Ying and Zhao Ming
On the Campaign map and Diplomacy screens, both Dragon princes now wear the Yishanguan (翼善冠), worn by Ming Dynasty royalty such as emperors and vassal-princes. Miao Ying will revert to her vanilla headgear during battle, to signify her shifting from administration and diplomacy to war. Zhao Ming will keep the Yishanguan along with his horns, because his head looked kind of "empty" otherwise...

Architecture

- The hanging drums, which looked kinda silly personally (who is going to reach and hit those?) has been changed to the setting-appropriate "Zhaoyaojing (照妖镜), or "Demon-revealing mirror", which is an actual Chinese folk magic item. As their name suggests, they are used to reveal and ward off demons and monsters, while also serving a role in traditional feng shui and are often seen hanging on top of doors in people's houses. Seems like a pretty good item to have around the city and especially the Great Bastion Gates when fighting the forces of Chaos.

- The floating palace of Weijin on the campaign screen now has the look of Ming Dynasty imperial palaces, which are the famous yellow glazed roofs, red walls and blue polychromes on the dougong-structures and such.

Ancillary-Followers
Added five followers, mostly for historical flavour reasons, based on various archetypes. I was shocked "Water-snake tamer" got in sooner than something as characteristic to Chinese history as "scholar-gentry", so that had to be fixed hahaha.

These followers include:

- Southern Poet (buffs magic pool)
- Strategist (buffs ambushes)
- Righteous Judge (buffs public order)
- Famed Scholar (buffs diplomacy)
- Camp Secretary (buffs army maintenance)

Future plans:
- Unit cards for the soldiers to match their reskinned appearance
- More architectural edits maybe

Models for brigandine armours and Yongzi-helmet originally made by BOBOS and KeVin (currently the dev of Cangloong City) for the use of modding, with other assets jury-rigged by me.

Recommend to use with:
Submod - Ming Officers (adds history inspired officers to Cathay army units)
Grand Cathay Flag - 天朝旗帜 (to complete the aesthetic)
(OLD) Better Magistrates (buffs up Lord Magistrates a bit)
Celestial Guard Reskin
Celestial General reskin by 八宝山酒店一级葱师 (closer to vanilla with extra florishes)
Celestial General reskin by DEER24 (more radical reskin but closer to historical / folkloric depictions of Chinese warrior-generals)
Gate Master reskin by DEER24 (reskin similar to the style of my mod)

My previous Cathay Historical Reskin mods:
Cathay Authentic Names
Cathay Ming Dynasty Militarized
Cathay Ming Officers
Cathay True Ancient Ancestors
Ming Militarized Dead's Jade Army Expansion
Ming Militarized Dead's Cathay Unit Expansion

@Kharn the Bloody you can try making a backup of your game folder, download mods and update, put your own older version back, while removing the updated version. I've done that with updates for both Skyrim and several Total War games. :)

It seems nobody uses Nexus Mods anymore for manual downloads. Would love to be able to manually install off of these Skins and the "recommended use with" skins also but i need a manual download of the files.

yes I understand. Thanks. But I'm playing offline since July and can't subscribe or I have to update entire game, which will break many of my mods. Any chance you have a download link for zip files so I can manually install all of your great skins?

@Kharn_the_Bloody I have also made versions that only includes the reskins, which is linked the Description.

Would love to access every one of these reskins. Unfortunately I'm playing offline since July because I have so many mods and every update breaks my game.

Are there any download links for these mods for manual installation? Or could anyone send me the files for all reskins and the recommend reskin submods(officers, etc)? Skins only please, no new Units because I'm playing with SFO.

Love these skins. Would love to be able to access for manual install.

@Sarracenian, I have a question regarding the usage of the skin, and I wanted to message you privately? It's about permissions.

@HolyRedEye This only changes the appearance of units and adds some Ancillary followers, so there shouldn't be any issues with SFO
HolyRedEye Sep 3, 2024 @ 6:31pm
is it compatible with sfo??
