Pistol Proficiency Mod

Description
Introduction
Are you tired of your soldiers being rendered practically useless by a disabled arm? Have you wondered how they ever learnt to fire a rifle when they can't even shoot straight with a Pistol? Well, look no further: Your soldiers have just come back from boot camp and they finally know how to use a Pistol!

What this mod does:
  • Provides all classes with Handgun proficiency,
  • Adjusts the Geoscape inventory UI to show Handguns with all class filters,
  • Provides the configurable option to give additional accuracy and damage to Snipers and Berserkers respectively (i.e. Snipers gain bonus accuracy and Berserkers gain bonus damage),
  • (Warning) Since other factions also benefit from these changes, it provides a slight buff to Synedrion soldiers equipped with the Hera NP-1.

This mod does not influence the ability to roll Handgun related perks (such as Self Defence Specialist) in vanilla or otherwise.

Compatibility
This mod has been designed to be as unobtrusive as possible. As such, it should be compatible with the vast majority of other mods (including Terror from the Void, which it has been tested with) available on the workshop. However, mods that overwrite Class Proficiency definitions or significantly overhaul Inventory UI may cause issues.

WARNING: It has been brought to my attention that this mod is not compatible with Dtony's 80-in-1 supermod.

This mod can be used with existing saves and can be disabled or adjusted without needing to restart the game.

Acknowledgements
Many thanks to the Phoenix Rising team for providing open access to the Terror from the Void source code; an endlessly useful repository to learn from. A special thanks also to MadSkunky for without whom this mod would still be in its infancy.

@Outis will be fixed for next TFTV release. My fault, my fault... :)

Thanks! Very useful mod

@Outis I've encountered this a couple of times: I think it's something to do with TFTV and the changes it makes to the main menu screen and I doubt there's anything I can do fix that from this end.

Changes to the config of this mod is consistent across restarts, so one possible workaround would be to disable TFTV, restart to undo all of its changes and make whatever edit you need to the bonus multiplier and then re-enable TFTV and restart the game again to get that working.

I only have TftV and this mod installed. When I go to Mod Settings to configure Pistol Proficiency, there is no option. It is blank. Is there a fix for this?

@nzguzzi This mod doesn't really attempt to interfere with weapon balance. Handguns are originally designed as niche secondaries and all this mod does is make them universal for all classes.

pistols seem almost useless, they miss from only a few feet away. Does this mod fix the constant misses even when a character has proficiency?

Ah, I totally forgot that Handgun proficiency isn't in vanilla. Thanks for quick clarification. :)

@Axe I appreciate the kind words!

As to your question: Vanilla's "Self Defence Specialist" perk that provides PDW and Handgun proficiency will still grant PDW proficiency and the additional bonuses (hearing range and accuracy iirc). However, if you're playing with Terror from the Void (TftV) then their Handgun Proficiency perk does nothing while you have this mod. I designed it this way to ensure that the mod is compatible with both vanilla and TftV.

Your assumption about the bonus only applying to Snipers and Berserkers is correct: this was intended to give players space to maintain the vanilla identity of those classes as Handgun wielders.

Hope this helps! :)
