[DEPRECATED] North American Grain Hoppers

Description
These are now included in the base game and no longer need to be downloaded. I'm leaving them on the workshop for now to prevent any disrupted saves.

This is a series of covered hoppers for carrying grain or plastics. First is a 50t converted open-top coal hopper, as was sometimes seen in the 1940s and 1950s before dedicated grain wagons were developed. The second is a 4180 cubic foot 'Airslide' covered hopper built by General American Transporation Corporation in the 60s and 70s. The third is a 4550 cubic foot cylindrical grain hopper built by Marine Industries, Hawker-Siddeley, and National Steel Car for the Canadian Wheat Board.

50t Covered Hopper:
  • Origin: United States
  • Years 1952-1964
  • Weight 21 t
  • Capacity: 55 tons of crops or 17 tons of plastics

GA 4180 'Airslide':
  • Origin: United States
  • Years 1963-1980
  • Weight 30 t
  • Capacity: 81 tons of crops or 25 tons of plastics

CWB 4550:
  • Origin: Canada
  • Years 1970-1990
  • Weight 32 t
  • Capacity: 92 tons of crops or 28 tons of plastics
  • Skins include some generic colors and various Canadian Wheat Board and provincial-owned themes, minus logos.

All are available in USD.

Model and textures by superplunger.

Thanks to AlexDad and LovelyPL for the guides, and thanks to michaeldoll1996 for the help.

If you'd like to see another vehicle made, feel free to leave any suggestions. I'll be focusing (mostly) on Western vehicles that have been exported to Eastern Europe, and older equipment to help make early starts more fleshed out, especially pre-1960.

So,

$RESOURCE_TRANSPORT_TYPE RESOURCE_TRANSPORT_GENERAL
$RESOURCE_ALLOW_ONLY plants
$RESOURCE_ALLOW_ONLY plastics
$RESOURCE_ALLOW_ONLY cement
$RESOURCE_ALLOW_ONLY alumina

Would allow transport of cement or alumina in addition to crops or plastic, BUT the capacity of the dry bulk is reduced as compared to a dedicated dry bulk hopper (31 tons of cement to 55 tons of crops, vs 69 tons of cement for RESOURCE_TRANSPORT_CEMENT).

So I personally would leave it as you have them now - crops and plastics are both 'clean' and light commodities, cement is dirty and dense. Would be better to make dedicated low volume (2 or 3 bay), high tonnage cement hoppers later. My understanding is also that cement would more or less put an Airslide hopper permanently in cement service, due to the fabric liner.

But the above is how you can make any combination of open hull, covered hull, dry bulk, or cooler goods, should you need the information.

Thanks, can you make us some early game american diesel locos? Like 1930-1950.

Ah yes, I ran into the same issue trying to make a silo hold crops and dry bulk having 2 storage slots instead of one shared slot, though i did not try doing it with a vehicle. Nor did I try it as "plants only + cement only + alumina only" but as "dry bulk + plants only". I'll mess with something tomorrow as a test and see what I discover.

I could add a cement variant but I believe it would have to be a separate wagon ingame, I don't think you can make something carry both "dry bulk" and "covered" resources. I'll think about the plastics though. I always imagined them more as a generic plastic component rather than a bulk material, but pellets make more sense, considering the ingame icon and all.

nice work!

Wouldn't it be appropriate for the 50t hopper to also carry cement and alumina, being a converted coal hopper? (So heavier materials would be suitable). Any could also carry plastic pellets.
