My English is not that good. You just need to know that Type 63 is not SKS, while Type 56 rifle is.

@todonnell81 The type 56 firearm consists of 3 categories, the type 56 SMG(56式冲锋枪) is basically AK47 with some slight improvements, the type 56 rifle(56式步枪) is the Chinese SKS while the type 56 LMG (56式轻机枪）is the Chinese RPD. Type 63 may look like SKS, BUT IT's COMPLETELY DESIGNED BY THE CHINESE

@denouementium The type 56 rifle(56式步枪） is the Chineseversion of the SKS semi-auto rifle while type 63 is an automatic rifle which is designed on the basis of type 56. Type 63 is actually one of the first auto rifles completely designed&manufactured by the Chinese, so it's wrong to say that type 63 is "just another SKS", it's more like a combination of SKS and AK47.

ah okay, so there are both a type 56 and type 63 SKS, that makes some sense. I was aware that the chinese initially designated their AK reproduction as a 'sub machine gun,' so it makes sense they'd have a DMR-esque rifle to compensate. Kinda funny imagining a full auto SKS though

"Type 56" isn't the full military designation but only part of it, the M2 would be an american equivalent of this. the full designation would be something like "Semi-automatic carbine, 7.62x39mm, Type 56"(don't quote me on that, I'm not an expert), so the semi-automatic carbine in this particular caliber, adopted in this particular year.

There are three kinds of type 56: type 56 "SMG" (AK), type 56 rifle (SKS), type 56 squad machine gun (RPD). And type 63? I think it's a full auto SKS.

isnt this a type 63? my understanding was that the type 56 was the chinese reproduction of the AKM, not the SKS
