Chaos Upgrades: Marks of Chaos

Description
Features

Adds the four marks of chaos to most WoC units, beastmen, and norsca using the scrap-mechanic upgrades system. The marks themselves should be closer to the tabletop rulings:

  • Mark of Khorne adds Frenzy
  • Mark of Nurgle adds poison attacks
  • Mark of Slaanesh adds immunity to psych
  • Mark of Tzeentch adds some ward save.

I tried to limit this to reduce over-saturating chaos factions and to not throw the favour of the gods around all willy-nilly. As a rule of thumb; the fallen of chaos (forsaken, spawns, ungors etc) will generally not have access, but other lesser followers of chaos will have access to marks (I've been more generous in general to WoC, because by Slaanesh do they need some love.)

Chosen, Chaos knights and other more powerful followers of the ruinous powers can have stronger blessings of the gods that have additional features to the marks, As i felt they deserved something a little more exciting:

  • Berserk for Khorne
  • Horrible regen for Nurgle
  • Fear and terror for Slaanesh
  • Increased ally winds and decreased enemy winds for Tzeentch

Compatibility

Should be compatible with pretty much any mod, and is save game compatible. If you need me to add blessings/marks to any unit mods, just drop a message and I'll see if I can't go about making a submod :)

Not entirely compatible with SFO if playing norsca, as they already have a unit upgrade system in their overhaul and there would be some overlap. It will still WORK, but I think it is a bit overbloated for them with my mod in there too. I will do a submod for it sometime in the near future, after this main mod is a little more polished (unless somebody beats me to it!)

This is my first attempt at modding, and I had a lot of fun making it. Feel free to drop comments for feedback/suggestions, or bug reports!

TO DO:

  • Making BM upgrades cost dread to be more in line with vanilla beastmen upgrades done!
  • Add marks to norsca (with blessings for wulfrik's marauder champions, and marks for throgg's trolls.) Done!!
  • Look into unique faction effects within WoC (faction_banned_unit_purchasable_effects table wont do, since WoC is all one faction :( )

This mod aims to be a compatibility and Lore/TT friendly alternative to other marks of chaos mods already out there, with simple (hopefully balanced) buffs to give out among all chaos factions. That said, if you prefer more mark variety I highly recommend oil's Blessings of the Chaos Gods mod, which has more variety in the marks within WoC, or prop joe's Marks of Chaos mod which operates through his own unit upgrade system.

I agree with another comment that Slaanesh should get a speed+AP buff. In the mod's current state there is absolutely zero incentive to get Slaanesh upgrades over the other three which are vastly better.

I like the higher tier marks but the lower tier ones you basically just go for Khorne. Can you upgrade the lower ones to be a bit more powerful in line with Khorne.

Can you make a specific patch for SFO? Not to necessarily work on its effects with Norsca, but to give these marks to their custom units?

On the screenshot I see e.g. Nurgle and Slaneesh blessings for Beastmen Chaos Spawn, but they would have 0 effect on them (they have poison and unbreakable as base stats). I think that they should either be changed or disabled in cases like that. If you want to change them, Nurgle can give -5 MA MA 30 m aura debuff while Slaneesh can give Strider or more AP. WoC Chaos Spawn may keep standard Nurgle effect, as they have no poison as base.

Balance suggestions:
- 10% speed buff as additional standard buff for Slaneesh (ITP and fear/terror are ok but other options are noticeably more powerful while speed is sth that Chaos often lacks)
- standard Regen instead of Horrible Regen for Nurgle blessings except for units which have Regen as base (Regen is powerful enough as it is).

Charmed attacks would make sense. A simple buff to speed and AP damage would be fitting for Slaanesh units, too.

@Epic fail, you're right, but it's faithful to the tabletop, however. To compensate I've made it the cheapest upgrade. I'm considering imm-psych and fear on marks, and terror/charmed attacks on blessing.

The Slaanesh upgrades are quite underwhelming. Fear/Terror doesn't seem worth it compared to regen, frenzy/berserk and ward save.
