PKP EN57 / EN71

Description
Pafawag (Państwowa Fabryka Wagonów) 5B/6B EMU. Development started in 1959 and was based on the prewar EW51, which had its electric components supplied by English Electric. Further inspiration and lessons were taken from the E(W)55 (domestic) and E(N)56 (East German production) units.

Production for the EN57 (electric, low entrance with a step) started in 1961, with two cab cars (5B) and a power car (6B) making up one unit. In 1976, a 4-car variant (5B+6B+6B+5B, designated EN71) was introduced, later a few EN57s were converted by adding another power car. This was first used on the line to Zakopane to deal with the inclines as the regular unit was under-powered. The EN-71 (and successors) have since then been mostly used for longer regional routes. The low top speed (110 kph) was never an issue since the line speed in Poland was below that on most tracks (and remains so to this day).

Up to 3 units could be coupled. Starting with the 1900s serial number, the three part driver windows were replaced with a two part alternative. Production only ceased after 42 years in 1993 after 1429 units (+20 EN 71), making it the rail vehicle with the longest production run, ever.

During the late 80s and 90s, they were notorious for poor maintenance and received the nickname "Kibel" (derogatory slang for Toilet), most likely due to the compressor inlet being in the washroom next to the toilet and some "gentlemen" "mistaking" those two, which spread the smell throughout the train (this construction was consequentially changed). In the 2000s, the fleet underwent a massive overhaul and has since then had units undergo various modernisation programs with various degrees of change (Wikipedia lists over 40 different variants).

The units are still in used and even though hundreds have been withdrawn, many hundred remain in service and expected to remain so for decades, especially the modernised ones (some of which were practically rebuilt from scratch).

Depicted in this mod are the two and three-window variants without substantial modernisation (no cab replacement or roof-mounted AC). 6 livery options are included:

PKP initial paint scheme (pale yellow, dark blue)
PKP (yellow, blue)
PKP (orange, magenta)
PKP Przewozy Regionalny (burgundy, silver, graphite)
Koleje Mazowieckie (white, green, yellow, graphite)
PKP (yellow, blue, weathered)
