Serpent Mound

City-State Trait: Your Builders can now make Effigy Mound improvements.

City-State Type: Scientific

Unique Improvement: Effigy Mound
Masonry unlocks the Builder ability to construct Effigy Mounds. It grants +1 Science for every adjacent Hills tile, and +2 Appeal to adjacent tiles. You can have only one Effigy Mound per city. Tourism generated equal to the Appeal of the tile on which the Effigy Mound was built.

History:
Archaeologists are still debating the origin of Serpent Mound. The mound contains no artifacts and no burials that would help establish the age of the mound. The two leading theories are that the mound was built by either the Adena Culture (800 BC to 100 AD) around 320 BC, or the Fort Ancient Culture (1000 to 1750 AD) around 1070 AD. As there are Adena graves near the Serpent Mound, scholars thought the same people constructed the mound. The skeletal remains of the Adena type uncovered in the 1880s at Serpent Mound indicate that these people were unique among the ancient Ohio Valley peoples. When carbon dating studies were conducted on the charcoal pieces, two yielded a date placing the Serpent Mound within the realm of the Fort Ancient culture. The Fort Ancient people could have been the builders of the Serpent Mound. Alternatively, they may have refurbished the earthwork for their own use in the same way that people today fix up old houses to make them suitable for occupation again. The rattlesnake is significant as a symbol in the Mississippian culture, which would help explain the image of the mound. If this mound was built by the Fort Ancient people, it was uncharacteristic for that group. For example, the mound does not contain artifacts, although, like the Adena people, the Fort Ancient culture typically buried many artifacts in its mounds. In another difference, the Fort Ancient people did not usually bury their dead in the manner of the burials found in proximity to the effigy.

Compatible with Rise and Fall, Gathering Storm, NewFrontier.

maybe cheat Chillicothe abit more north. It's only an issue for people who use both. I do, because A: I'm from there, and B: I usually play one HUGE TSL and North America is kind of empty.

@sxarexrow: thanks for you feedback, do you have any suggestions for the coordinates?

The Chillicothe CS and this one would be right on top of each other in TSL. They are maybe an hour from each other. LOL

And having been to the Serpent Mound several times, the museum there promotes the co-op theory the most, i.e. Adena or mishmash precursor started the mound and the FA completed/altered it.
