tl;dr:
Sub to what's in THIS (1) collection for a near-perfect replica of NExt2 roads, including pedestrian paths.
It also includes mods to help remove NExt2 or use certain replacements.
Still, 1-click is discouraged. Think of your RAM, don't just sub to everything; pick what you want.

Q: WHAT DO I LOSE BY REMOVING & REPLACING NExt2??
A: You just need After Dark DLC for bus roads, and Mass Transit DLC for asymmetrical roads.
Otherwise, you only lose all the potential gamesave-breaking problems that has plagued many NExt2 users. Yay!

Welcome to a set of 3 collections of what you can use instead of NExt2.

They are numbered in ascending order of how different they are from vanilla + NExt2.
  • Collection 1 is basically just NExt2 extracted out to real roads.
  • Collection 2 is an alternative option. Similar options to expand on vanilla, but different, nicer.
  • Collection 3 lists mostly collections the previous ones pulled from, so you can decide your core set yourself.
Let's get to it.

No matter what, make sure you have Loading Screen Mod to lower RAM usage.

Road Details
Have you wanted all rendered tunnels? These are replicas made from scratch using vanilla textures, NOT direct rips of the NExt2 roads. This means a few props had to be replaced with vanilla ones, but the best thing is, THEY ALL HAVE RENDERED TUNNELS!

    Notes:
    • ALL NExt2 roads? ............................................Yes!
    • Rendered tunnels: ............................................Yes!
    • Same props? ................Some props (eg lights) were unique to NExt2. Replaced with vanilla.
    • Naming scheme? ..................TBA

The Mods
  • Replace Our Networks is a new mod to replace any network with any other network.
    • It can show you where they are in your city, too.
    • As of Sep 2021, it's in Beta, so be aware there is still testing to do that you can help with by trying it out, and there are some features to add.
    • It's a useful mod to keep after removing NExt2.
  • Road Removal Tool is much more limited, but it's specifically targeted at replacing NExt2.
    • It can show you where they are by coloring them pink, but doesn't work if underground.
    • That's the only way to check if you have any placed or not.
    • If you're not a super-precise detailer, this will do the job the fastest with likely no issues.
    • You will unsub this mod after removing NExt2.
  • Zone Adjuster helps you make zones align well to roads.
    • Narrow roads may place zones too far from the road for your liking.
    • Large roads give classic, misaligned zones even on perfect 90 degree intersections.
    • This lets you fix it.

If you have a need or desire to check what a road is:
  • Picker, Network Skins, and Move It all have different ways of identifying networks.
  • Find It can also show if a selected asset is used or not and where it is, but I'm unsure it's reliable for vanilla / NExt2.

Q: Why move away from NExt2?
A: Roads. As a mod. From 2016. Tons of posts needing help with it. Hint hint.

It came from the original NExt project before custom roads were possible. That's why it's a mod, not real road assets. This hack-y nature means it'll definitely break your game if you unsub it without removing its roads from your city, and it gets in the way of modern modders. Loading Screen Mod also can't optimize it for RAM.



This took almost 3 full days to write and work through while dealing with my own NExt2 issues.
Sacrificed time I should be putting into building my website for myself as a composer.
