WWI was often summarized by short and bloody hand-to-hand fighting, often utilizing makeshift weapons other than the bayonets, such an example is stated in Erich Maria Remarque's All Quiet on the Western Front, informing us that bayonets often would stick in the ribcage, while a good shovel could cleave a man straight. As such, special weapons such as clubs made of nearly anything available were utilized, or if you were lucky, you were a pioneer and had a cool hatchet thingy. The example shown here is arguably one of the most famous depictions and is seen in the very popular WW1-era game Battlefield 1. Well, technically there are two of them. One is covered in barbed wire and the other is an additional one for whoever wants to use it, which is one without the wire and only 15 protruding spikes instead of 17.
