Network Rail Tamper

Network Rail Tamper inspired by DR73114. Pretty simple interior (I ain't the best at detailing yet lol)

Tamping machines do the same job as stoneblowers, restoring the line and level of the track, but work in a slightly different way.

They insert large tools called tines into the ballast – the stones beneath the track – and then force the tines together to move ballast under the sleepers. The tamping machine moves additional ballast under the sleepers to raise the height of the track and can move the track sideways if required.

It is programmed with geometrical data that shows where the track should be, and compares the data with the actual track position using on-board measuring equipment. The machine then calculates the required movements to reposition the track according to the geometrical data.

Some tamping machines can be used to treat switches and crossings (S&C), while others are for treating plain line (straight) track.

ive been meaning to join that, reall cant wait to see a grinder. are you planning on a full grinder consist? ya ive been meaning to join that discord

@sarobertson7 A grinder is already on the list! I also have the newer rail cleaners planned. The only one I probably wont do is a Stone blower as they are basically the same as a Tamper. But yeah I'm pretty sure a couple of the builders in the Discord I'm in (Jersey's official) might be happy to help :D

oh i know how that is im kinda in the same boat when it comes to building with logic. i have to say it looks just like a real one. also there are a number of bulders that could help out in making the tamper work right.
i know its early to do request but if ever have time i think a rail grinder train would go great with this.

@asrobertson7 Yeah I gotta learn the whole master / slave system still. As for the tamper, I reckon it would be easy just not got round to it yet. I ain't exactly the best builder when it comes to mechanics but I do try to make them look pretty. Although I still got a couple I gotta finish the liveries for before release.

ill have to look on my train im reworking. maybe can use the same system from it so you can then control it from both cabs.
though i dont think that it would be to hard to get the tamper working

@sarobertson7 Only the main cab drives, the rear unit only has the lights functioning. Eventually I'd like to make the Tamper work tho! The rear is just a dummy tho it's brakes do work (I accidentally left them to default on). The rear unit only carries electricity.

oh no i ment like the actual tamper part, i know the actual train moves. though that said wit the second part to this dose that just control this part of the train? was trying to use the controls and the trail was unresponsive
