Pennsylvania Railroad

Description
Take on the role of J. Edgar Thomson, first Chief Engineer and third President of the Pennsylvania Railroad. Under your sober leadership, the Pennsy is destined to become the largest corporation the world has ever seen. It is up to you to build a system worthy of the name “Standard Railroad of the World”.

OVERVIEW

The Pennsylvania Railroad was key to the rise of the United States as an industrial powerhouse in the 19th and 20th centuries. Incorporating over 800 other rail lines into it's system, the PRR linked the major cities of the Atlantic Seaboard to the Midwest with over 11,000 route miles. The Pennsy became not just the largest railroad in the world, carrying three times the ton-miles of other comparable roads, but the largest corporation in the world with a budget second only to the U.S. government itself.

In this scenario you will retrace the history of the PRR from the construction of the Main Line across Pennsylvania, to its expansion into the Midwest and the Northeast Corridor. Fuel the growth of American industrial might and connect the centers of business, industry, and government with famous named trains such as The Congressional and The Broadway Limited.

FEATURES
  • New version of the Great Lakes map, with dozens of new cities and more realistic rural business placement. (Great Lakes DLC required)
  • All locomotives have been re-tuned with authentic technical data as reference. Grades, curves, and train weight will have a significant impact on performance, making locomotive selection more important.
  • Rail car weights have also been adjusted splitting freight into three categories: general freight at a middle weight, heavy bulk freight: coal and iron ore, and perishable freight which has lighter cars and benefits from refrigeration. Which goods benefit from the refrigerator car has also been made more clear. Only freight cars using the Vat Car or Refrigerator Car model receive the bonus.
  • Tech tree and descriptions updated to reflect accurate progression of locomotive technology.
  • New goods and industry flow; many late game goods require more refined materials.
  • The historical Pennsylvania Railroad scenario.

Really fun scenario thanks for your work but I really hate the last missions to transport from NY to Chicago. Takes forever!

RE: Austin’s comment on the Washington / NYC express: it’s actually pretty easy. Just draw a more or less straight line between Washington and NYC. This means paying for a tunnel.

Yes, the tunnel is going to be pricey, but by the time you’re concerned about meeting the objective, you should have millions of dollars in income from a rail network spanning much of the Midwest.

I very much love this scenario, just cant for the life of me figure out how to get to Pittsburgh by 52. Also echoing what others said, large cities just downsize immediately.

It's a very nice scenario in general. There's one thing I'd alter: The express line from Washington to NY looks to be impossible with any credible route/grades. I made a nice job of the route with nothing over 3% grade and it was significantly too long. To get the achievement the line must need to be almost straight which would come out crazy expensive or a bad route.

That aside, a nice challenge without being *too* hard to play; overall I enjoyed it

Are we suppose to get ratings if and when we complete all tasks in this scenario?
