Empire at War: Remake 4.0 – The Grand Update

As of a few days ago, a dev has leaked the unfinished 5.0 developer build of the mod. We recommend waiting for the full update here on the main mod page, which will not be as undercooked as the leaked version.

It's finally here! With the Grand Update, we now consider Remake a complete experience, but it is far from a finished product. With the major reworks done, and the sandbox fully fleshed out, new content should be releasing much more often. The 4.0 Update is a total overhaul of the entire game, leaving nothing untouched. Forget everything you know about vanilla, and the previous versions of Remake, because it's a whole new beast. We all hope you enjoy our unique take on Empire at War, focused on large scale, exciting warfare and our new Ground Overhaul!

New Feature Overview:

- The Webway GC Overhaul:
New Maps and new gameplay, focused on capturing powerful Sectors
New Minor Factions, each of which has unique units
New GC Economy Overhaul (Watch out for Attrition and Upkeep Costs!)
New GC AI Overhaul
New AI Only "Observer GC" (Sit back, and watch the chaos, as the AI plays the whole game for you, battles and all!)

- Space Overhauls:
New Modular Space Station Overhaul
New Secondary Space Stations (Including Golans!)
New Starfighter Overhaul (Including new Starfighter Behavior [no more blobs], new Weapons, many new units, and the Attrition system)
New Space Units (Including the Hutt Fleet! Finally, the Underworld is a proper Faction)

- Ground Overhauls:
New Regiment System (Build and Deploy entire armies at once)
New Mechanics
New types of Infantry, Vehicles, and Ground Starfighters
New Weapons and Abilities
New Modular Base Overhaul
New Buildings, and Defensive Building Types

Is there any way to make the ships a little easier to see? Xml file edits to increase gamma or something? The space battles are second to none but I just can't see my ships because it's so dark.

Final addition: Unlike many comments here, I have never had a single crash and the GC map runs smoothly for me. The GC map and UI are the best looking out of all EAW mods.

The ground battles are really cool. I love the regiment system and there is so much fun tactics to use with the different infantry and vehicle roles. The devs put a lot of thought and work into the regiment system and it's very well made. But again, an insane amount of micro managing is necessary to make use of it. I routinely use all command groups 1-9. Every ground battle starts with a few minutes of setting up command groups, otherwise specialised units like mortar troops leave their potential on the road. On the other hand, some ground maps are impossible to defend. Regiments are huge unit clusters, and even with high amounts of defensive buildings, high tier regiments and micro managing everything to death, you can't really defend against regiment spam of units that take a long time to kill. While a very beautiful and scenic battle unfolds, the AI drops in endless amounts of new regiments, slowly but surely grinding you to death with no chance for you to push them out of the map.

The difficulty forces you into a certain way to play the game. The user "Sans" explains a lot in these comments and seems to have analyzed similar issues with economy and fleet buildup. Reading his comments and from my own experience, the AI throws certain problems at you and you have to figure out how to defend against them, but there is only a very small set of solutions to them. The early game of every conquest is effectively managing the balance between your economy buildup and bomber spam, because bomber spam is the only viable way to reliable survive the early game. Wanna play a different style? Too bad, build a shit ton of bombers and aggressively micro manage every battle, or die within the first few dozen months. Upgraded space stations become undefeatable roadblocks until you have unlocked the most powerful units in the game. But it's hard to even get to the point where you can afford them.

Incredible mod, the graphics are unbelievable, really beautiful. It's hard to believe it's the same game honestly. Unfortunately it isn't really fun to play due to the high difficulty. You can very slowly scrape forward, but you'll need to do an insane amount of micro managing. It's not fun to play when you have to pause every few seconds and give tons of individual commands, just for your larger ships to barely have a chance to survive. I play Thrawns Revenge on highest difficulty with max modifiers, but EAW Remake is unplayable at any other level but easy. And even on easy it feels unfair. Very unfortunate, because in my opinion this mod is the best out of all EAW conversions.

i cant get this to work, unless im doing something wrong? ive even downloaded the launcher but the mod does not show up there or in game

Use tactics, your ships get wiped out. By a force 1/5 the size of yours
Try overwhelming force. Your ships get knocked out. By a force 1/5 the size of yours
Try to build up a force 5x the size of whats defending the area and hope maybe auto-resolve works. Get wiped out.
