Perk_Psi_Cloud_the_Mind Bug Fix



For a while now, a lot of you have been having crashes pertaining to a Perk called Perk_Psi_Cloud_the_Mind. Some have had the crash with some of our CX mods and some thought it might be the Celatid mod and or it was happening A LOT when Chosen are in play.

BUT... It seems the Perk is actually a unused perk that was added some time ago with WOTC and is attached to the Psi Operative XCom Soldier Class. We are still not 100% sure what in the game calls for this unused Perk. As its unused, it should not be called at all. So if anyone is playing with the base game Psi Operative class or any form or variation of the Psi Operative Class, there is a great chance that unused Perk is trying to be called for some unknown reason.


A really simple "i hope, fix" was added here and suggested by another CX member to try. All I did was add the Perk to a XComGameData.ini file and put a - in front of it to effectively disable it. As you see in the mod preview pick.


UPDATE: Found that this bug is a vanilla game bug thats been happening way before WOTC. Still not sure whats causing it but since deactivating the cloud the mind perk that was unused, the bug now happens with other unused perks associated with the Psi Ops class. So i went and disabled all the unused perks to see if that helps. List is below.

Worth noting... it seems that the Rising Tide mods use some of these perk names. Some I've talked to say they have never had any issues with the Rising Tide mods either. But if you are using those mods and having this crash... something in that mod combined with another mod might be triggering the crash. I assure you that it is not any of the CX enemy mods causing the crash.

I hope this fixes the bug for you guys!!!!

I have encountered a really unusual bug here. When starting a new game, the game crashes during the newscaster's bit just before Gatecrasher. Also, loading saved games will crash the game as well. I've worked the problem a bit and the only mod consistently present when the crash happens is this one.

I cant say yes or no. To be honest, this is a base game bug and has popped up a few times even with base game psi enemies in play with the Chosen Warlock. The main cause of the is bug is from the CHOSEN WARLOCK in play while other Psi units are in play. Something within HIS code doesnt interact well with other Psi units. It did trigger A LOT when the Adv Warlock mod was active but i can not say 100% that it was that mod and only that mod that in part may have cause the issue.

So if I'm not using the Advent Warlock mod, do I even need this fix?

The WotC ADVENT Warlock Mod has received a major update. The empty base game perks such as 'Psi_Cloud_the_Mind' should no longer cause a crash event when the Chosen Warlock is present and active when an ADVENT Warlock uses an ability that requires a Perk. At least, I have not been able to reproduce the crash using a save file where I managed to isolate the issue. :steamhappy:

Because this isnt an ability mod. This mod is a fix mod for a WOTC BUG with the Warlock that only triggers when he is in play and other Psi based enemies or XCOM units are in play. This mod was created to fix the issue with the Warlock triggering the Park Psi Cloud The Mind (which in the game files is a empty perk/ability). This mod does stop that from triggering BUT as i pointed out below, whatever the BUG is that only the Warlock seems to trigger, if this mod is active, it fixes but then the BUG picks another random ability that may or may not be active and spawns the popup that that perk could not be found. Nothing I can do about that, sorry.

@MrShadowCX Now I'm not a modder, and what you've done is impressive. But I do have one question. When it comes to custom abilities and stuff, take the ABA mod, or any class mod. When they use an ability that is vastly different from the ones we see in vanilia, it works perfectly fine.

What I'm asking is, "what is the issue?" Why do all of these other unique abilities from these other mods work and this one doesn't? Because this is (out of the other 200 or so mods i have) the ONLY mod that i've seen that has this issue.

It does work BUT whatever bug there is with the Warlock and psi units... causes this bug to (sometimes) find another perk to not load and repeats this bug with another perk.

So, I've been reading the comments to this mod and is there confirmation that it actually works? I don't want to start a play-through and have to redo it because of the Warlock (again)
