Trampling

Description
This mod adds one more aspect of realism into game: stepping onto plant damages it.

Walking over cell with plant will cause damage to plant, proportional to stepping creature size. Damage does not happen when character goes to do some agriculture job (or returns from it).

To balance this damaging, plants now slowly heal up over time, by cost of slowing down growth.

With this mod, you will feel more annoyed by pets/animals/guests destroying your crops, you'll have to plan your crops to not be on the common pathways.

Source code is there on GitHub, feel free to look into it. I see no ways that it can fail by itself.

Just started getting exceptions on one of my colonists, causing a ton of lag. They seem to be due to this mod. https://gist.github.com/9cac38ca5c2ee8fbe9e5ae7d6a9091b0

Just thought: would it be possible to make it so they sow backwards so they don't step over the plants, like writing with your right hand? That and being able to clear a field before sowing it would be nice to avoid people having to trample crops to pick up plant scraps from cut grass.

This mod has made me have to think about the design of my farms way more than I used to, which is cool! I've also been thinking about setting up orchards for fruit trees as they won't have to worry about being trampled.

Could you consider adding a settings window for this mod? Being able to adjust the damage dealt to plants on the fly would be nice.

Small but great. Thank you again. No my games without your mod.

Mod recognizes sowing, harvesting and plant cutting as jobs where pawn walks over crops "carefully" and does no damage. It does not support custom farming mod jobs. I expect, though, damage of rare jobs to be compensated by plant heal up.

As for animals, this is intentional to add more realism. Animals tend to damage their meadows in reality.

And just had a thought: how well does this work with mods that add fertilisation and such? Are they correctly considered as agricultural jobs by the mod? For instance, I have Dubs Bad Hygiene and Fertile Fields installed, both of which provide different ways to fertilise crops. I'm not worried about FF since that requires there be no crops there in order to fertilise the soil first, as it's a terraforming job, but Dub's Hygiene applies a separate fertilisation layer over top, which requires pawns to walk around on the crops.

I also just realised that with this installed, animal pens can no longer have grass or haygrass growing in the same space as the animals, as they just completely trample and destroy all the crops before they get a chance to grow. xD

Thank you so much for the quick fix!
