Why are Mods missing?
Actually, I've already mentioned my question a line above. Might someone just explain to me, why so many Mods has been deleted? I've thought, the Steam Workshop would not mess around with already published mods, but apparently I've made a mistake. What can I do about it? Nothing?

I've loved my collection of mods and I've spend a lot of time to collect them and to make them work together to improve my experience of Civ V. But now it's just gone, all of a sudden, even in my "My Games"-folder in Documents.

Is this some kind of cleaning up, to cut the support of the Workshop-section of Civ V? I hope not, because they've removed some quite popular mods like "UI-Trade Opportunities" and "Global - Commander Influence".

Right now, in my situation, the whole game is broken, just because I'm used to play with these mods.

All mods are currently off-line (as Steam/Firaxis are dysfunctional ) - when/if I find a new workable home for over 150 mods I will make them available again

It is the author of those mods you've mentioned. He has probably deleted them from the workshop and steam cleaned your mods directory. Let us hope he will bring them back soon.

As WHoward has stated elsewhere, his mods (some of the best) have been removed due to his frustration on several points with the Workshop. I apologize to him for paraphrasing, but the one thing here that really REALLY gets my goat is that the mod I downloaded from Steam actually *belonged* to him. *I* PAID MONEY to purchase a game and took upon myself the risk of downloading a mod (in bright red letters, no less) that Steam has no ownership of, and then Steam REMOVED HIS PROPERTY FROM MY PROPERTY without notice or leave.
Then, as further insult, Steam did not even do that correctly, since one of his mods is STILL active on my computer. But the game I was on is worthless now.
Background: I was a teenager when CIV I came out. I have played every PC version of CIV since day one. I always play the longest version possible, so the mod I lost wasn't even going to be needed for a couple more centuries (subs ignore borders).
Where is the basic common sense in the coding of the workshop? If I have to click a button to update a mod that is stored on my computer, then i sure as heck should have to click a button to have the whole damn thing REMOVED without even a flashing light or some damn sign that this is going on. NEVER have I heard of such hubris and kept a program like this on my computer.
So tiktak let's get this straight, please:
1) Steam royally pissed whoward69 off with incompetence.
2) whoward69 got tired of being flamed for Steam's incompetence and removed his intellectual property.
3) Steam applied a massive mandatory download that messed lots of other stuff up, too.
4) As part of that patch, whoward69's property that thousands of gamers downloaded of their own free will onto their own physical property was DELETED without permission automatically.
5) Now more flamers are insinuating or stating that this is all whoward69's fault, which is patently false.
The entire line of Civilization games have been iconic and a part of computer history since the beginning. I have never had this much trouble with any of the previous versions. None of the previous versions have been Steam client. ALL of the problems with this game have been Steam client, outside of some initial balance issues.
Steam- fix this or lose a customer.
whoward69 - kudos for taking a stand
tiktak - only Steam can clean your directory out if you don't
Finally, last I checked, common property laws trumped EULA quite easily in any British/American based jurisdiction. Save all of us any EULA based BS, 'cause I ain't buying.
tdanyliw thank you for taking an effort and explaining that much but i am fully aware of the issues in the workshop and why do modders protest againt the mess here. i dont really know why did you come up with that i blame william for yesterdays incident. what i stated was just that after he deleted his work steam did the same automatically on user machines. By the way if you dont already know all his mods are available at CFC, he uploaded them there yesterday. For what i am personaly very grateful.
would have been nice if they made the game right in the first place. All they had to do is update the graphics of civ4 bts. how had can that be?

tiktak I apologise if I read into your comment a swipe at howard that wasn't there :)
I did find his mods. Thank goodness for that. I was on quite the rant up there. Sorry. Others have definitely blamed him elsewhere though not you.

My God, all the best mods are gone! I guess I won't be playing CIV until they fix this. Yup, another customer gone.

The removal of popular mods has diminished my enthusiasm for this game. What a shame that modders got frustrated with the lack of quality control and removed their property. They did a heckuva job and added immensely to my game. Shame on steam.

Read post #39 in this thread - http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=430157&page=2 - and then follow the links in the sig - you will find all the missing mods on the CFC download site - and CFC won't randomly delete them once you have re-installed them

Between the comments of whoward69 and tanydliw; an excellent explanation of what has transpired. Thanks for encapsulating the situation!
