Workshop mods not working unless I add them manually to mod_order.txt [Solved]
As the title says, steam workshop mods were not working for me. The mods were shown in the kcd.log file, with lines saying "[Mod] 'mods/(mod number)' has no version restrictions in manifest" for each one, but they wouldn't actually get loaded. So I took the mod's id, either from copying the .pak file name, or copying its name from inside the .manifest, and placed them in the mod_order.txt file. After that, they loaded into my game successfully.

Why is this happening? Is it because I already have mods from Nexus/Vortex? Can you not have mods from multiple sources? Or is it a different reason? I'm glad they're working now, but having to add them manually is, pardon my language.. heckin lame.

That's odd. I never needed a mod_order file for KCD2. I'm running both Nexus and Workshop mods as well.

I like Vortex, but not for KCD or KCD2. Don't use Vortex. Copy/Paste all your Nexus mods manually into your Mods folder. You don't need a mod_order text file so delete it.

Okay so the mod_order.txt file was the problem. After reading your post, I googled the mod_order.txt and found a mod install guide from kcd2mods.com. In it, it mentions the mod_order.txt file is optional, to use if you want to load your mods in any way other than alphabetical. And while it allows you to order your mods how you like, it also works as a whitelist, so any thing not listed in it will not get loaded. So I just removed it and ran the game and all is working as it should. Thank you.

As for Vortex, other than seemingly auto-creating this load order file, it has been working fine for kcd2, and worked well for kcd1 too. I've been using it since it was known as nexus mod manager and have never had any major issues with it. Even if I have to delete the auto-created mod_order file every time I add a new mod with it, it'll still be worth using for me to keep the benefits of easy enabling/disabling of mods and easy to find updates for the mods I have installed.
