Dunno about the AI freaking out, but it breaks exploration since my explorer just sits in port trying to work out how to get into the sea to explore the undiscovered sea tiles.

Maybe the person who said it was being vague, most of what I've heard is that the ai would waste all their ships in it but when its this big it honestly shouldn't be too big of a problem

As far as I know, it is not possible to build canals in the RNW, so the inland sea will remain closed off.
