you don't need an account, and no it does not give you a virus. Could you imagine me uploading something to steam that gave people viruses, that would be crazy lol

@jefu There's no replacement mod. You can still hear the l4d main menu music because you didn't follow the instructions on how to install this mod. Follow the instructions and it will work.

Now, instead of playing the game, I sit around in the main menu and enjoy this.
